I think the strange/paradoxical policy choices really boils down to having a desired destination/outcome. People work backwards from their desired outcome, finding facts/policies to support their emotional desires. Instead of working from facts toward emotional desires. When one avenue of goal advancement fails to yield desired outcomes they switch to another. For the left, its a matter of "if the workers won't support being robbed to create gay space communism, we'll import a slave class." For the right, its a matter of "if big business won't support traditional single provider families with homes and 2.5+ children, we'll support workers rights and protectionism."

Well that and the common starting ground. Both L and R currently have basically the same assumptions about the world, about the constant march of progress, hence the jokes about "conservatives" being liberals following the speed limit. Thus the differences are in how we are going to achieve it. The real question is whether these assumptions are actually true, and to do that a non cucked Right is necessary, not as simply a brake but as a counter force to the L insanity. Shit like the fungibility of people stems from the Enlightenment values of the tabula rasa and the social contract. It really goes deep in regards to political thought, thus the see the different branches of the same tree as different entities, while in fact they are cousins. That's why Vance should scare the left; he is following some people who reject this viewing of history and humanity, more willing to challenge it, and thus he may bring something ideologically new. Because while Trumpian populism is really important in an age where the electorate constantly goes unnoticed, there really should be an ideology grounded in reality underpinning the whole MAGA movement.
As a non American on the right, I really hope they manage to succeed, and thus make these ideas more palatable to the rest of the world, cause we badly need them.

Because to these people don't see "Democracy" as the will of the people, they see "Democracy" as a function of "institutions".

To them "Democracy" isn't Joe Doublewide giving his two cents on political matters and choosing a leader that represents him - no, "Democracy" is all the journoroaches deciding what is truth, all the unelected bureaucrats determining how the government should be run, all the Vindman-style staff officer POGs politicizing the military, and all the crooked DA's deciding what is and isn't a crime.
