For what I've experienced of the genre, and in artsy-farty Tumblr-adjacent indie games in general, allegory and metaphor are a completely lost art; most of the time its either a message as subtle as a punch to the balls and just as complex, or just the most superficial elements of a pre-packaged theme slapped together because it's trendy among their small circle. Any interesting or revealing insight is usually either a Freudian slip or coincidence. I can't blame them too much since two consecutive generations of academia treating The Death of the Author as a competitive sport can dissuade anyone to even try to be subtle about anything, and I'd say it's a running theme in most of current media.
"Meat-X" and very mild body horror are popular among the gender crowd because if fits with the Tumblr fascination with purposeful ugliness, serves as a gatekeeping barrier to keep the normies out, and gives them an excuse to be fetish-adjacent with plausible deniability. Honestly exploring the themes of the genre and linking them with the trans "experience" would require a capability for introspection that the average troon simply doesn't have (otherwise they wouldn't be troons), and most certainly would be deemed too problematic.

If I had to wager a guess, it's probably more to do with sitting around a slightly-nostalgic game aesthetic, where they can expend exactly zero effort "fishing" while they ERP in chat with each other.

It is actually a more common feature in Japanese games, then some people on twitter noticed and it became a meme. The original creators of the finishing minigames usually did it because they themselves liked fishing, while the fishing minigamers do it because they like video game fishing and memes. It's sharing that single braincell of ideas with each other, it sounds funny so I will do it so people in my social circle will laugh and high five me.

Kickstarter lists a name of Cayden Bullock. Kind of a gay name, but a male one.


Googling the name led me to a GitHub page of a certain Cayden Bullock (he/him), developer of game called Closer To Home and owner of site isthisamug.com.

Clicking on the hotlink opens a Steam store page for Closer To Home, listing the developer as "itamu", the nickname of the creator of Mama's Sleeping Angels.

Looking up "isthisamug" also finds a an ArtStation profile of Cayden, with presumably his face (looking like a fairly normal guy) in the profile picture and a very strange description.
