A real-life case study in anonymous internet harassment and insider threat: I have previously vouched for Kevin Crawley as a skilled communicator and technologist. While I have no reason to doubt his technical skill, I have learned new information about him as a person. As a result, I must sadly retract my endorsement of him as a warm, gracious, collaborative individual; I can no longer recommend that anyone hire him in any capacity, and indeed, I believe he may pose a safety risk to his colleagues, or even to his employer.
As some of you know, I've been subjected to a vicious harassment campaign originating on Kiwi Farms for the past several years. One of the perpetrators, a user who goes by "mailfrawd," claimed a prior professional connection to me, and leveraged that to give additional weight to his vilification of me. This person went so far as to claim to be a fellow member of the conference speaker community; the idea that a Kiwi Farms user could have that kind of access made me afraid for my safety and well-being while participating in tech conferences. To mitigate that threat to the greatest extent, I asked Kathryn Tewson, investigator and paralegal at my US legal team Kamerman, Uncyk, Soniker & Klein PC, to unmask this individual. I was devastated to learn from her report that mailfrawd is, and can only be, my former colleague, friend, and co-presenter Kevin Crawley.
I've included her report as an attachment to this post. It is extraordinarily detailed, and there is no doubt in my mind that she has identified the correct individual, but I would urge you all to read it for yourself and come to your own conclusions. While Kevin is not the only Kiwi Farms user whose identity as a member of the tech community Kathryn has uncovered, I felt it was important to make this information public as quickly as possible (after coordinated disclosure to his employer and to the tech communities he's been a member or leader in) to protect the safety of the community, particularly those who may still rely on my endorsements of him in the past. I could not in good conscience withhold this information from this community, where so much is built on trust; any individual that spreads bigotry and lies about their colleagues (especially if it's in a place they think no one is listening) could present terrible risk to marginalised employees' careers as a manager, interviewer or colleague. I owe it to all of you to enable you to make fully informed decisions.
On a personal note, it pains me to do this. I considered Kevin a professional collaborator and friend. I tried to recruit him to Honeycomb in late 2019 on account of his excellent work, and wrote him a positive reference when he was laid off in early 2020. I do not know what has caused this change in his heart, but it doesn't really matter. I wish him peace, grace, and growth, but this step is necessary to protect the community in the meanwhile.

I mean we know his activism is just a weak mask for a very specific and very personal vendetta and that LFJ doesn't give a rat's ass about any other "harassment victim" when he can't use them to his advantage, but maybe he should be more careful about saying the quiet part out loud so bluntly.I wonder who they are talking about?

This dude has one of the worst cases of grandiosity combined with a persecution complex that I've ever seen, and I worked with literal paranoid schizophrenics for many years. If any of them had come to a session and spouted what Elliot claims on a regular basis (ie, only I can save The Internet, and I'm literally being gangstalked by kiwichuds) he'd be placed on a hold and watched for 48-72 hrs.
