Compared to the ED articles which were 75% memes and shitlinks, the OPs on lolcows here (as an example) ARE fairly clinical and well researched and laid out with supporting links for nearly every important fact.

There's plenty of goofy shit still, and the Autistic Thunderdome is an unparalleled stew of spergery, but you can see what he ment by his statement.

Encyclopedia Dramatica was a shitty pre-KYM type site before becoming a vulgar Wikipedia parody with more porn and gore (and sometimes gorn) than a Hollywood executive's hard drive. Kiwi Farms, on the hand, used to be a forum for the Cwcki before splintering off to become it's own thing when it became bigger and started discussing more individuals than just Chris Chan and his orbiters.

Basically tl;dr ED is a shitty Wikipedia parody and KF is a lolcow centered forum.

The death of ED is the inevitable fate for many websites, including Kiwi Farms (someday even Kiwi Farms will be on its death bed as well and we may be on a totally different website talking about the death of Kiwi Farms but that will take place in the future that we don't have to worry about for the moment).

ED died for several reasons:

1. It's user interface is more outdated than a Japanese corporate website. ED looks like a time capsule of what the Internet was like and I say this as to insult ED. Any would be new users that bother to check it out would be like 'Eww, it looks like something out of 2008'. ED looks so outdated that it's sad.

2. Internet culture has changed drastically. The Internet of 20 years ago is almost nothing like the Internet of now. When ED was at its peak, it was filled to the brim with skitzo A-Logs and Weens that couldn't find joy in anything in life (and you can only spam the word 'Nigger' so many times until that gets old and boring). ED was made for a time when much of the Internet spoke in slang and slurs but these days it's preferable that you talk like a normal human being (if you talk like an ED user these days you're just going to be seen as cringe).

3. This is more of an extension of my second point. The Internet basically grew up. Looking back on ED now is like if you were to look back on your edgy teenager years. If you look back on your teenager years, you may remember the things you thought were cool and how you used to talk and very likely you just cringe at your younger years (calling people a fag in your teenager years may have been cool with your buddies back in the day but you as an adult you now realize that silence is power).

ED died because it refuses to catch up with the times, its userbase is still stuck in 2008, and the Internet simply outgrew websites like ED at this point.

I would say that it's dead because it doesn't cover anything that's currently interesting. It's a vicious cycle, no young people enter, so there's no articles about things which young people would be familiar with, which makes it so no young people enter, and so on and so on.

The site could still be funny and relevant if it wanted to. Problem is that anyone still interested in Encyclopedia Dramatica brand in 2024 is the same retard that only goes to their forum hugbox. Just form a discord server at this point.
A site like this shows there is plenty of people willing to write articles, do their research and even make it entertaining to read. It's not impossible to create a community like this. This is 100% the problem of people running the site and it's community.
Are old articles still swiss cheese with missing images? If that's still the case after all this time, then what's the point of keeping it around? If you can't even archive your own wiki, why bother trying to expand it?
