Fat Acceptance Movement / Fat Girlcows

This is a hard hate watch but if you're brave give it a shot. The faggy host and Gordon's husky laugh are tough to get through, even on a hate watch.

yrfatfriend for folks not in the know, one of the worst writers to come out of the FA.

Aubrey Gordon/Your Fat Friend has been one of those writers I always classify in my mind to be "the idiot's thinker"; her concepts and her pieces sound more compelling and more profound the less you've read, which naturally made her quite the superstar on the illiterate hellhole known as Twitter. To anyone who has read more than a few books after high school, you can rapidly identify her as a navel-gazing dipshit who read a lot of Rupi Kaur from random Instagram pages.

For those less familiar with her works, please allow me to provide some of her Medium stories for your reading leisure.
When Thin People Hurt Fat People Out of Love
The Gifts of Fatness
I Will Not Help You Hate Your Body
Weight Loss Surgery and the Unbearable Thinness of Being
What Your Thinness Has Taken From You
I've always found the popularity of her works a bit disturbing, because she seems to sincerely think that her experiences are separated out from a pants size or a BMI number rather than the fact that the heavier you get, the more it can (and may inevitably, depending on how big you get) disable you. The older fat activsts have started to gear towards disability activism, which is probably what they should've been gunning for in the first place, but such is the folly of youth, unaware of the cold hand of consequence until you're deeply ensnared.

The stretch knit-infication of mass market apparels has led to women like that fat black chick able to squeeze her apron belly into Brandy Melville of all things— notice she wasn’t trying on anything with actual shape or pants.
How very dare you, these items fit her beautifully.

Her podcast "Maintenance Phase" is irksome to me for a lot of reasons, but one of them I realized was because they do this odd thing where the podcast carries at a pace that doesn't allow the listener time to go "Wait, hold on, that doesn't make sense." or "You just said something and didn't back it up."
It reminds me of:

Capitalism this capitalism that. The most hypocritical thing coming from people with processed food addictions. I dare you to grow your own food or even cook for yourself most of the time. You might find your weight problem clears up.

It’s also so ironic how many of these anti-capitalism folx are obsessed with fast fashion, modern media, and pointless junk like affirmation cards, crystals, and pride merch. Go start a commune, you have more than enough “mutuals”.

It’s annoying how these idiots find a way to blame capitalism for everything, all the while claiming its oppression that they have to buy two airplane seats…it’s oppression that they can’t go into any random store and find clothes up to 10x…and the biggest injustice of it all is that they are being FORCED to buy shitty plastic clothes that were sewn by kids.

The fucking worst is when they’re like “well there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism” and try to compare it to people saying “hur dur u hate capitalism yet have a smartphone” and ignore the fact that a smartphone is more of a necessity than buying 10 pieces of shitty clothes every week. I bet a huge (hehe) number of them upgrade their phones after a year or two.

I hope the “fat activist” movement falls apart in the next few years because I’m tired of these lardasses comparing the plight of not getting a second (or third lmao) airplane seat for free.

They think they’re fucking Rosa Parks when they get other people kicked off of flights because they take up three seats

Sry for sperging, I used to be surrounded by that shit and it is just so laughable these fat idiots think they are leading a civil rights movement bc they don’t want to lose weight.

It's always capitalism that is the ultimate boogeyman to these people. Doesn't matter what it is, it's capitalism.

For example GMOs. You speak to these people who are against them and eventually it always comes back to Monsanto and "you can't patent a seed". Whether that's true or not doesn't take away that GMOs aren't evil. Corporations might be but ultimately they're driven by profit and if they spent $10 billion dollars to develop a tomato that is resistant to bugs, stays fresher longer and you can douse with weed killer and it will be okay then they should be able to recoup that investment and make money off of it. And yes some of the strongarm Gestapo tactics they've used in the past are questionable but ultimately they're not entirely in the wrong.

However to these people they might as well be Hitler.

The first fatty has a point. "Natural" foods or those that are less processed cost more than processed foods. I know. It's crazy. But that doesn't take away from the fact those highly processed foods are bad for you and you should limit them. But again these people don't have a clue. You're poor? Then let me introduce you to your two new best friends:

rice.jpg
beans.jpg

Big old bag of rice and a bunch of beans. Lentils will also work for this as will just about any legume.

Add these:

Leftover-Celery-Leftover-Carrots-and-Leftover-Onions.jpg

Some of this:

masala.jpg

Garam Masala.

Maybe some tomatoes, a cheap bit of pork or chicken or even some sausage and when you're done you have a delicious, healthy and nutritionally balanced meal that costs you pennies per portion.

Hell the other day I made a lentil soup which was absolutely killer. Packed with flavor, loaded with nutrition and it was bloody cheap. A four pound bag of lentils costs maybe $10. A 20 pound bag of rice costs about the same. Two of the cheapest things in the store are also two of the best things for you.

But no. It's easier to just buy some prepackaged stuff loaded with salt, sugar and fat and complain that you can't afford "healthy" foods.

As for the rest about capitalism being fat phobic? No. Larger plane aisles would mean the need for larger planes which needs more fuel which means higher prices which means they'd still be making their money but less people could fly at once. Companies want to make money. That's why they're in business. If tomorrow the average wasitline of the world went up by six sizes then guess what? They'd have to increase the size of seats and the like. And it would still cost you more. Nobody wins when fat people become the norm or they get to dictate how wide a seat or aisle is.

I've always considered much of the discussion about capitalism among fat activist spaces has more to do with it being an offshoot of other leftist activities rather than a conclusion arrived to sensibly for their needs. These are not exactly scholarly types we're talking about; they parrot what their friends parrot and play along like good little ducklings hopping to get neatly in a row.

If they were sat in front of any kind of dense theory textbook - let's say one book is pro-capitalism, one book is neutral about capitalism, and the last one is anti-capitalism - they would evaporate. Their only source of knowledge is sound bites and Instagram slides with cutesy Pinterest graphics that end, inevitably, in the OP's CashApp being linked.

These types couldn't draw an independent conclusion of their own if they wanted to, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't try; such a naked proclivity for following like a lamb is a terrible trait in anyone unless you're in the market to make a cult. We accept this behavior in little kids as their brains are still in the oven and following the big monkeys is just instinct for little monkeys, but by the time you're 25 and espousing thoughtless crap you couldn't defend even if you had the energy to? It's sad, but worse than that is that it makes them the perfect conduits for spreading propaganda to younger followers who don't have any cognitive failsafes to keep them from falling for the same traps.

Also, all of this body positivity being preached by women with long hair and makeup makes it even more obvious that they don't really believe the tenets, they simply preach the book. How come they never advocate for women being permitted to go braless without scrutiny? It's always about advocating for more shit to buy in fun colors - I never see them defending anyone with snaggleteeth or lazy eyes.

Yeah, or try being a person with cystic acne or rosacea, or a big old port-wine stain right in your face. 'Body positivity' hasn't reached those people yet. I'd say they have it even worse now that all the zoomers are using skin smoothing filters, and expect that that's a normal way to look. But at least most people with poor skin through no fault of their own live happier and more fulfilling lives than Tess Holiday and her hypocritical ilk.

Apologies to anyone for going a bit OT:
The main thing that comes to mind to me is a foundation from the UK known as Changing Faces who, while promoting acceptance, also lead patients to resources for their mental health while also locating condition-specific foundations for them in case they need specialized assistance. While calling them "visible differences" is a profoundly "special needs" way of describing people with a seriously wide range of deformities, I must admit it warm my cold little pickle heart to see that some people do care about body positivity - or at least neutrality - beyond selling gimmicky shirts and weird candles on Etsy.

(And yes, this organization does recognize things like rosacea, port-wine stains and acne, among other things like burn victims, psoriasis, alopecia, amputees, vitiligo* and more. Some of their spokespeople even have things like neurofibramatosis, which is a very hard condition to live with.)

*Despite all of Tumblr's attempts to convince people that vitiligo is common, it's really not and still bears heavy stigma for many people. But I'm sure you're all already aware of this.
But I digress; I feel at the core of it, fat activists should align themselves more closely with disability rights than any kind of anti-capitalistic endeavors, but then again, they endure a similar problem the trans rights folks have: admitting they are more in line with disabled and chronically ill people is essentially admitting they are specifically not normal, and that there should be fixes for them, and the concept of being "fixed" is terrifying to them when it's all they've made their identities into. Instead, it must be demanded that the reason for their abnormality is purely prejudice and discrimination. This soothes the ego and also makes the people around them pity them, so it's a win-win all around.

At least until you snap a hip out of place.

Behold these clips from ep 8 of a fat acceptance podcast, The Fab Fatties (formerly the four fab fatties, before they kicked out and excommunicated the blonde chick).

This is what anorexia looks like, bigots.

They go on to sperg over the fact she didn’t get the anorexia badge of honor, she got the ‘atypical anorexia‘ diagnosis instead, which is just so fatphobic! Listen to her explain the HORROR of going HOURS without eating!

This woman was at an eating disorder treatment centre with trained professions sitting in front of her until she ate her meals with underweight actual anorexics beside her. She is in therapy groups with anorexics having to listen to her talk about her nonexistent problems. She was originally diagnosed with binge/restrict ED, but upon being given her first meal (a breakfast) protested that she didn’t eat that much in a binge, and therefore got the atypical anorexia diagnosis.

This obese chick was diagnosed by a medical professional. It’s a fucking joke.

She would go for hours?

What it is, is women who have pushed themselves to their limits and gone without eating for a day or two or maybe only eaten 200 calories a day for a few days at a time want to be given “credit” for their suffering. That’s why I like Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified as a category. They want people to know they went to great lengths to try to lose weight, some have even collapsed. But because they can’t keep it up for a long time due to also having over eating issues they don’t have the sudden weight loss so it’s not as severe.

So the behavior can be mimicked as an attempt at weight loss but the psychological profile of an anotexic is not there in these cases.

I think one should simply say I’ve had issues with severely restrictive eating and not claim anorexia.

Because it’s not quite the same not even from just a physical standpoint of not having lost enough weight.

There is no greater insult to ego than being a fat person with an eating disorder! Because these are people who purposely self induce it as a weight loss tool and they want it to show and people to know. The true anorexic will hide their weight loss and be more compulsive and food avoidant, after awhile they physically lose all appetite and CANT eat.

True Anoxeria is about perfectionism and control and compulsively adhering to obsessive routines to lose weight.

Mimicked anorexia is trying not to eat as long as you can in hopes of losing weight.

Those are the people I wholeheartedly wish the body positivity movement was about. It must be very difficult to live with a serious deformity or even something cosmetic like a birthmark (and some birthmarks can be dangerous as well) in today’s image obsessed world.
One of Fergies princess daughters had a wedding dress that showed the massive scar down her back from a scoliosis operation. Made no big deal over it, just wore a lovely dress and looked lovely whilst having a substantial scar. That’s positivity.

I think body positivity can be for fat people too, in a certain way. They face scorn, stigma, harassment, bullying, all the same. If those are things we care about, then not extending them just because fat, seems contradictory. However, that good faith in that was stomped on, when it turned into HAES, calories aren’t real (there are very few things in science considered totally robust, studies are always flawed etc, but a calorie is one of the few matters convincingly deemed settled), disagreeing is racist actually, pursuing weight loss is harmful, and DATE ME.

These yentas really are something else. I wonder if any of them know anyone that’s had a successful weight loss surgery. Would love to see them explain how people that have been successful with WLS routinely go 12+ hours a day for years at a time without eating and manage not to pass out. Arguing with them about reality is a waste of time but I would love to see them explain that very typical phenomenon.

Oh the poor thing went HOURS without eating?! How terrible is that not to be able to have food constantly in front of her? I take it all back what I said about these fatasses being lazy and entitled. I never realized they were forced to go HOURS without eating.

Come back when you've been forced to go a day without eating and then we'll talk.

There's a difference between body positivity and just letting it all hang out and flaunting it. Nobody wants to see these heffalumps lumbering down the street in booty shorts and a crop top. But to them that's "positivity". No it's not. It's disgusting is what it is.

True positivity is understanding you don't have a perfect body and being okay with that. It means coming to terms with your faults and accepting it. It means dressing in a way that doesn't scream, "I'm an attention whore".

The saddest damn thing on Threads right now- young fat girls taking photos in their bedrooms which show them with big guts and asking “No one thinks I’m pretty, does anyone think big girls can be pretty?” Come on people, help your kids get to a normal healthy size. This shit is heartbreaking, begging for attention from strangers while you’re alone in your childhood bedroom.
