The Ramones were just okay. Nothing special. (The clash was not that good either.)

Playing simple chords fast is perfectly fine. Music does not necessarily need talent to be fun. I don't have fun when I'm bored listening to a Ramones album.

Their music was tame and pussy whipped relative to Johnny Rotten and GG Allin, and if I ever actually want to be sedated, I will listen to an album performed by the Ramones.

Also, anybody who wears a Ramones t-shirt is just as much of a poser as somebody who wears a Nirvana t-shirt.

I miss the days when music was mainly discussed in the record shop, and if a cunt expressed a view like the OP the old guy behind the counter would just ban them.

I thought they were great for what they were. Nobody is going to accuse them of revolutionizing music or being particularly innovative, but they just rocked out and had fun. Nothing wrong with that. Sort of like AC/DC except dumber. And a lot of their dumb songs were dumbly clever.

I really like the Ramones and I'll happily tell you they were just okay. That was kind of the point -- in the face of mid-70s prog and arena rock overkill, it was okay to be just okay musicians making just okay music.

Then 30 years later Green Day makes a Broadway rock opera. What can ya do, as the man says.

Really, though, the Ramones came up in the wrong decade. If he was born 20 or 25 years earlier Joey would have been the living god of doo-wop.

They did the pop punk thing best first. Almost all their songs are ultra-stripped-down abab chorus abab chorus type things with no middle eight and just straight ahead rock. All fun, no autistic politics left or right, no pretentious "deep" shit, just headbanging glory.

And there was actually some good doo-wop shit in Ramones music too.
