Watched yet another fasting documentary, this time cheaper and more down to earth. They spoke of three rats; one fed 24/7, one fed in a window, and one fed in a window mon-fri and 24/7 weekends (the "party" rat).

The feeding windowed rat didnt gain weight while the one eating 24/7 did, even though they ate the exact same. The party rat also benefited as if fasting. Apparently the circadian rhythm isn't only for sleeping; it's built into our organs. So eating 6.30AM and 9PM interrupt your body's natural recalibrating period, ruining blood sugar, blood pressure, and thus leading to weight gain.

A dude in the documentary said his heart beat too fast for him to do sports. Started fasting, could do ironmans. I hate how shilly and "magical" fasting sounds like some kind of keto or caveman diet, but it really just works and makes every part of your life easier. Said guy also confessed to eating a lot worse now cause he focuses on the eating window rather than what he actually eats.

There is nothing shilly about it.
From a "caveman" perspective we haven't relied on meaningful carbs in millions of years of our development (especially considering we didn't have evidence of much processing/cooking plant matter). Fruit in most parts of the world are seasonal (unless you lived in a tropical jungle). Most contemporary edible food wasn't available in their current form or was only found in small pockets of the world.
We aren't confined to a specific habitat, unlike most of our other primate cousins. So our food sources were often not predictable/reliable.(you can't just munch on some random foliage, like herbivore/grazers).

We have been biologically adapted for fasting, and consuming protein/fat based diet allows us to do this.

BTW all babies are born in ketosis. It is the default/natural state until they learn to eat carbs.

I don't want to sound braggy, but fucking stick to your goals. It's so worth it.

I started my weight loss journey in January and reached my goal last month. It's fucking great. Losing weight is actual tits.
I get to wear the clothes I love, laying down isn't painful and I get to work out all the time with minimal post-workout pain. Also I can keep up with my kid.

I'm focusing on gains from lifting now.

I did it through keto (focused on protein), intermittent fasting + slowly reintegrating carbs. Also working out at least four times a weak (weightlifting and cardio)
Do it do it do it do it

What do you guys think about sweeteners? I do still drink diet soda on keto. So far it’s still working well. I was going to wean myself off it but i don’t know if it’s needed.

As bad as Aspartame is for you, it's still the only thing that really protects you from the effects of the Great Green Blanket. So if you live or frequently travel along any West Coast Highways, it's worth the health risks for the sake for your existential integrity.

Meanwhile I went on a 1200-1500 kcal diet, lost 45 pounds and still feel fat. I fast by default and coworkers say t's noticeable but I just feel and look fat all the same. I need to work out every week to go any further which I don't care for, but being fat never escapes your mind.

It takes time to adjust to your new body size. Try lifting heavy weights and buy some clothes you feel good in. Properly fitting clothes goes a long way to not feeling fat.

The way I understand it from my days on a weight loss forum, if you don't lift weights you end up looking like you did when you were fat, just smaller. Weights will change that so you look smaller and more fit, even though the number on the scale will go up.

Happy Thanksgiving American frens. Make good choices, but if you don't, make better ones tomorrow. Love you all.

Edit: I seem to remember someone asking about electrolytes, LMNT electrolytes has a recipe for the same mix in their packets. LMNT is a big brand among the keto/carnivore set.

I was never obese and I did lift (until I developed a weird spikey headache and quit. Been tempted to start again but I'd rather start running and do 'useful' shit instead). It's still a mindset thing, especially people who drop 80lb and get surgery and shit. Sure I could pad out with muscle to fix what little sag I've got, but still, there's a mental aspect that never goes away, especially if you were fat for most of your teens when it "mattered" compared to being another average office bloke.

The worst I've been was slightly in the Obese Class I range for weight gain (Though I fluctuated between Obesity and being Underweight which was pretty chaotic). For the results of drastically changing my diet and working out is that I lost around 3 - 4 pounds in 1 week so far. This is been going great. I also noticed because I drastically changed my diet to avoid fast food, I start getting an slight aversion to sugar and fatty food as well. My relatives noticed I lost some weight as well. It's still not very easy resisting the temptation of eating junk though so eating these Walnuts, Almonds and Cottage Cheese was my go to for that. Working out on the treadmill for 15 minutes a day has also helped me. Also feels pretty relieving I found a way to stop drinking so much of that Soda.

Oh and speaking of Cottage Cheese. There's so many recipes you could make with it. I know Cottage Cheese is not for everybody but thankfully I was able to really enjoy it.

Its also dead easy to make and better than the store bought (especially if you can source raw milk)

I'm joining the gym Thursday or Friday (I have to wait until payday). There's a World Gym here in town, and I can join through my insurance company for $29/MO. Or I could join Planet Fitness for $19/month, but I hate PF. I don't need the temptation of pizza or bagels. Or the retarded lunk alarm.

I plan to mostly work with weights, as I have a stationary bike at home for cardio. Going to the gym will also get me out of the house and interacting with people even if I don't talk to them, which is good for my mental health.

Feels good to be making good decisions again.

Last time I checked in was back in May.

I’m still maintaining 120lbs, it’s been about 3 years since starting this journey at 155 lbs.

I began to lift in August, and was going strong for a full 2 months, putting on what I believe to be 2lbs of muscle. Everything was going great until October, where the slight pain in my butt cheek and lower back blew up to a full on problem.

I didn’t go to a doctor, I just stopped everything. Walking was a pain in the ass. Bending was painful. So I gave myself a month.

Now that we’re in December, it’s been 6 weeks with no pain. I can do brisk walks again with no problems.

I’m scared, but I will go back to lifting, those gains are kinda gone, which is disappointing. This time around, I won’t do any weighted squats, which is what’s caused this issue. I favor my right side due to a hip and leg injury on my left side. I guess squatting a 30 dumbbell means I was putting most of that weight on my right side instead of distributing it on both sides.

You might benefit from a few sessions with a physical therapist. The underlying issue might be fixable by working on that one leg first, or at least they'll know the best way to work around it to where you don't risk permanent injury. Good luck.

I saw my doctor today. She changed my diabetes drugs a bit, and recommended I go back to the gym a town over because it has a pool. I've been having some foot pain after walking even short distances (about a mile, or often less) so she's sending me to a podiatrist. Just in case he wants me to stay mostly non-weight bearing for a while, because then I couldn't use the gym I was planning to join anymore. She has a good point, so Friday I'm going to do that instead. I don't really like the drive, but it's only twenty minutes one way.

I've been doing omad for about a week and a half now. Mostly because I'm too lazy to defrost my beef and cook it more than once a day and I don't really like eggs. Hey whatever works, right?

I recently did a 96 hour fast and I noticed a day and a half in or so my stomach gurgled like it was empty for maybe a few hours on and off. During this time I felt hungry moreso than I did for the majority of the fast. Now that the fast has concluded, with my dietary restrictions in place (coffee, unprocessed meat & veggies only, final destination), I was planning to do a simple OMAD until I reach my target goal with another fast here or there.

What I was wondering was, would it make more sense to not do OMAD and instead, wait for the gurgle (which seemed like my body explicitly telling me it's meal time) or should I wait until the gurgle subsides consistently. If anybody knows the technical terms for what I'm talking about, you'd be super helpful.
I'm kind of retarded, but my last weight in was 236.8 (started at 260.2 about 3 months ago)
Checking in at 230.4. 💪💪💪
My "waiting for the stomach gurgle" method seems to be working. Don't feel hungry, don't feel like I've eaten too much. Eyeballing meats & veggies. Gonna reward myself with an 8 day fast. Doubt I can realistically break 200 before new years but I know I'll break 220. 💪💪💪

Really glad to see the confirmations about others' experience through fasting, I get so much shit about it being dangerous starvation or whatever from people who know I do it but jesus christ, I'm not an olympic athlete. Why eat if you aren't hungry?

It's been the one solution that actually worked for me with weight loss and craving healthier food and made me start eating less in general like some weird body recalibration thing.

I have the same problem with feeling just as fat as before. I know I only lost 20 pounds/ten percent of my body weight but I thought I’d feel something different by now. I have one pair of jeans that are kinda baggy on my butt now but that’s it. My one neighbour told me I look like I lost a lot of weight but she says that every time she sees me lol I think she thinks she’s being nice but i no longer believe her at all.

20 lbs is a lot. But if your still big, your now just less big. Keep going. Im sure you got some great face gains so far.

@Rap Scallion
Fasting is what got me from 135lbs down to 114lbs. Costco chicken bone broth is what took me there. That and vaping. But yeah, we’re not meant to be full all the time. Bulking for the winter wasn’t meant for putting on fat to build muscles mass, it was meant for us to survive the winter.
