Note: if there was already a general Syrian Civil War thread I would post there, but the latest thread on the war in Happenings was over two years ago: 2022 Turkish incursion of northern Syria.

The theater at the present; note all the GAINZ made by the rebels in the last 24 hours:

Syrian Rebel (HTS and other groups) POV footage:

Turkish forces are involved in retaliation artillery strikes.

Not quite the TB2 Turkey shoot of Idlib 2020 yet but give it time.

Unfortunately for Assad, this time the Russians are occupied in Eastern Ukraine and Hizbollah has been annihilated by Israel. Those two allies were crucial for him to win last time. But Iran and Iraq may still be able to support Assad. And maybe even the Houthis.

Syria is a shithole version 2.0

It's a civil war. Its Syrians vs Syrians, with both sides being fairly awful.
It's Turkey + Israel + ISIS (Israel Secret Intelligence Service) + various CIA funded jihadi groups + various State Dept funded jihadi groups + various DIA funded jihadi groups + various Quatari funded Jihadi groups

vs

All of the Christians, Alawites, and Shia in Syria

Interesting that this started right after Hezbollah and Israel signed truce . I will admit I dont know anything about Syria. But let me guess this is no coincidence .
With Israel out of the equation, it becomes a inter-Muslim sectarian struggle all over again. Turkey can recommence aiding the rebels against Hezbollah without looking like they are on the same side as Israel. Also, Hezbollah is as completely fucked as it's going to get before it can begin to recover, with only independently running cells remaining in southern Lebanon, their top brass have been airstriked and those down the ranks were either paged or walkie-talkied ACK'd.

Looks like the proxies finally got the green light from Langley. Never forget that these rat fucks lied to the sitting president about our presence there and refused the order to withdraw our forces. I wonder how many troops we still have at those oil fields.
Alternative reading: Trump's win means there is at least a chance the war in Ukraine that is bogging Russia down will end next year so Turkey and their rebels have to make the move now.

Both Russia and Iran can't help as much as in the past. Assad's position is pretty bad overall because all his friends are busy.
