I'm genuinely surprised people even commission art anymore. Especially with how AI can do very specific fetish stuff now. $65, several weeks and poor correspondence, or train an AI for a few hours and get thousand of dollars of art in a day?

Seeing all of the "muh AI slop" seething on the Internet in the artist circles made me think: what the hell happened to the "art for art's sake" idea? I think if the complainers just made their little art pieces in spite of the big bad AI instead of yelling at it all the time, they would be way happier.

This is an old take but the popularity of sites like e6ai and e621 is because it completely removes the artist and it's devout followers-griefers from the actual product.
It is ironic that the art becomes more popular the less artist is present. Better yet, if artist is dead. Da Vinci and so on...
Ai is just next generation of de-liberalization of workers. Anyone without practical skills is on the way out. Musicians, painters, writers, journalists etc ...
In a way, it's a green transition as it takes less calories per jpeg to render it than to draw it. As the art is "to be consumed and move on" the point is to get it as cheaply as possible.

I can't remember the last time I commissioned an artist. I can either draw the things I usually commission an artist to do for me or just generate it in AI instead. Ironically a huge money saver. Saved my tens and hundreds while still getting what I wished for (via AI).
