Tabletop Roleplaying Games (D&D, Pathfinder, CoC, ETC.)

I'm sure Musk was just shittalking and has no intention of putting out any cash for D&D. Shame though, it would be hilarious if he did. The screaming freakouts would be pure entertainment for months after.
I do agree that he wasn't serious, but I pray that he actually decides to do it and the trannies cry and seethe and the monopoly of LGBT&D is fucking broken.

TL:DW: Hasbro is getting sued by it's own investors for constantly over producing shit nobody wants and then lying about it.
The modern economy in a nutshell.
So I don't play MtG, I don't buy new D&D books and probably won't even if they made something really good. That being said Elon buying all of Hasbro would be the funniest god damn thing ever and my fingers are crossed for my specific interest in laughing at retards on the internet. The D&D staff will get gutted and replaced, Magic the Gathering might go in some card pricing crisis and of course you have bronies, spergs that collect transformers, other weirdos obsessed with some other toy or game all having to kneel to the autism emperor.

I don't even know what would happen exactly, but I know it'd be funny.
The Message spell will be replaced with Xeet, and there'll be a D&D adventure around discovering a Tesla Gigafactory with leftover Tesla robots as the mooks and a silver dragon (a sentient Cybertruck) as the boss.

Not gonna lie, that could be a fun one. Instead of the usual ruined citadel, a ruined ancient factory overrun with plant life and malfunctioning golems.

A halfway decent GM could definitely make it work.

Put up a solid gold statue of Elon in the lobby to give the players a really big giggle.

I thought that at this point it was common knowlegde that Hasbro's D&D (and other franchises) toys didn't sell at all, whats new to me is the lying part (and the lawsuit but that one is recent). There was also that whole shitshow with the channel/media company they bought and did nothing with and lastly there is the fact they hesitated to release the sales numbers of D&D 2024 books so Elon's timing couldn't be better.
Oh that's actually due to how the guy pushing it and leading the company kind of fucking died before a lot of those media ideas were put into fruition. That did a lot of damage to the company, since the driver for them trying to make a movie studio renaissance just vanished and they had nothing to show for it. It was made worse when they hired former Microsoft execs who got booted from that company for financial mismanagement and penny-wise, pound foolish scrounging and gouging.

Fun fact: WOTC has failed all metrics of sales before 5.5e except for the digital MTG arena.

Shame though, it would be hilarious if he did.
It wouldn't be the savviest business decision on his part but it would be incredibly funny. I expect he said it in jest, but we can hope.

At this rate you can consider DnD certifiably dead. My major hope was that all the faggots who migrated into the hobby would move over to Daggerheart, since they're actually just Critical Role fans and not really DnD fans, but I gave up on that.

I swear. If RicMTheGM channel was somewhat popular. He would be the Movie Bob of the tabletop gaming scene. Mind you, this fat fuck pathfinder fanboy reacted to Donald Trump winning the 2016 election by ranting about stereotyping gnomes. He is also one of the first people I can find advocating kicking out players for voting conservative long before tumblr got popular with early SJW types. This faggot is yelling at his family and friends who voted for Trump because they complained about gas prices being too high. He also appears to have a weirdo sexual obsession by making Gnome characters and autistic black children in pathfinder and 5E D&D. Uses pronouns on Twitter.

Gnomes are easy, I just act like they're jews. I remember back in the wizard game I played we all got arrested because we were told that something bad would happen (I don't remember what) if we didn't steal something (I don't remember what) from some wizard lady so all three wizards just started screaming, "I'm under duress! I'm under duress!" while just going berserk toward our goal. We lit a building on fire, put multiple people in critical condition and blew up an expensive magical laboratory. When we finally gave ourselves over for trial I remember my wizard just screaming about how he demanded his lawyer Mr. Gnomeberg be there. We played that game from 1 to 20 and then did weird shit to become gods. I still call Mr. Gnomeberg for everything I need and we still just do a stereotypical jew accent.

It's not that hard, really.

I want to say the trial was attacked or something and we ran off to form our own city, which was a giant shit show. Point is we were innocent and if my gnomish lawyer had time to present our case I'm sure we would have been fine. I think my god/wizard still owes him court fees.

I was just going to post the cover of the book, but then I remembered that this masterpiece exists.

To us, yes. But just as with Disney Star Wars, AAA gaming, and DnD itself, criticism gets you called a bigot, a grifter, that [shit thing] has never been better. That channel's other videos (and the b-roll in the background of the lawsuit video) is him walking through Ollie's making fun of the 8 foot tall stacks of unsold Star Wars toys.

I was complaining to a friend about the issues getting people to play TTRPGs these days, comparing it to football, and was told an interesting theory. That the game is both a massive time commitment (3 hours minimum, all day for a "real game") and that TTRPGs worth playing are a huge mental drain which people don't want to deal with. Not a point of view I've considered before.

Oh damn I had actually heard about that from a video talking about the MLP (of all things) and transformer movies but never made the connection with the channel/media company purchase. The execs from microsoft I was not aware of though, now I see why people entertained all those rumors of hasbro wanting to sell wotc/d&d all those months ago.

Tetsubo57 is also sort of a D&D youtuber who has changed to mostly bitching about politics complaining about the right wing. I think it was Captain Gothnog or one of the other people in the Woodwwad/Gentleman Gamer/Hammeredshitsteak part of youtube rpgs from over a decade ago that mentioned Tetsubo was advocating for kicking Rightwingers out of the tabletop spaces they were creating for what they called the "Youtube RPG Community."

How bad of an idea is it to DM Pathfinder 2e despite having little experience with it? I've played DnD 3.0, 3.5e, 5e, and Pathfinder WotR but not 2e. Reading the player core now and for the most part I like it (I think it's a little crazy that mixed ancestries can get TWO ancestral feats). Still going to be a little while but I was going to study the game til I feel comfortable with the rules. Was thinking for my first time on doing a quick session as a warm up, then moving on to a pre-made module. Afterwards running my own little adventure.

Pretty much, only reason I still do it is because I'm in a very long lasting group of friends. But our campaigns have really shifted to more narrative and less mechanics.

That's why we've been playing BFRP recently. The time commitment is unavoidable with any kind of social game (just try playing any boardgame more complicated than checkers with only 1 or 2 hours to spare), but the rules being quick and snappy and most people only getting to roll dice once per turn makes for a much faster paced game without feeling like your brain turned into mush by the end of the session.

This isn't an ad for BFRP, of course. You can do it with a lot of other games, and we have homebrewed ours quite heavily since we're all veteran players and the system is quite modular like that. But even homebrewed, the basic turn structure hasn't become any more complex so the game still runs quickly. We can finish an average random encounter (assuming it gets to combat, which isn't guaranteed) in five minutes or less.
