Optimistic as fuck, the Saudi attempts to try to employ their cash to safeguard their post oil economy is not going to work because they simply aren't smart. One can just look at such brilliant projects such as a building a line, or their attempt to build a dazzling Theme Park (with the Six Flags brand, but Saudi funded) in Qidday or however the fuck you spell it, with the longest, fastest, tallest Roller Coaster on the world, built on mountains and including extremely complex launches, in a country ripe with conditions hostile to such things. Oh, and can't forget temperatures increasing which will mean less and less tourists will want to go to that shithole.
Like, the only thing that they have guaranteed is Mecca and Medina and that's only because of Islam. Once (if) Oil becomes irrelevant, then the Middle East is fucked. The Emirates too are trying to safeguard their future with stem and technology (lulzing at the UAE wanting to get into space shit). Another thing which the gulf will have is hub airports thanks to Geography but that won't be enough for their regimes.
Syria, Palestine, Iraq, Yemen and Lebanon are all the future of the middle east when the oil money dries up and everyone is vying for what remains. Look forward to fighting over the bare essentials like water, and more droves of refugees flooding into Europe, because Turkey will happily open the door.
