KR South Korean president declares emergency martial law, accusing opposition of anti-state activities

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared an “emergency martial law,” Tuesday accusing the country’s opposition of controlling the parliament, sympathizing with North Korea and paralyzing the government with anti-state activities.

Yoon made the announcement during a televised briefing. He declared the step as critical for defending the country’s constitutional order. It wasn’t immediately clear how the steps would affect the country’s governance and democracy.

Yoon since taking office in 2022 had struggled to push his agendas against an opposition-controlled parliament.

Were there Japs? I only recall two Korean dudes that got drafted after going on a forced world tour as jap conscripts, then Russian conscripts and then they "joined" the SS and got captured by the Americans at D.Day

Japanese SS and Wehrmacht were mostly attached for journalism, consultation and other non-combat roles.

I secretly hope for civil war in South Korea. I don't want anyone to get hurt, but it would be super funny.

I also hope he becomes a dictator.

Yoon is doing everything not to be impeached. It's quite concerning for the military in a democratic country to maintain martial law when the majority of the assembly from both parties denounced it and voted to end it.
It was just the opposition party and the other parties voting, there's nothing to indicate he got stabbed in the back by his own party.

Considering the trigger pullers in modern countries all range from 18-20, not a single one of them can remember a time in their life when anime wasn't a thing.

This isn't even a uniquely Asian thing. The Taliban were tossing dakimakuras out of the US barracks in Kabul and there's been a couple body pillows spotted on tanks in Ukraine.
