Mhm girl if u wanna be thicc like yo moms is you betta eat sum cohnstarch!!

I don't think glass straws would be popular. That's something I would expect to see someone smoking meth out of a lighbulb with

Make them out of copper. Said crackheads will recycle every single one of them
we already have glass cups and drinking glasses
the only reason glass straws arent popular is because theyre not introduced and commonplace yet

i also imagine theres some concern that if establishments start making straws reusable, people will steal them
which is, on one hand a little odd to think they'd be stolen any more often than mugs or utensils
but on the other hand they just might be, owing to their exoticism

paper straws are such a performative "fix" it's 100% an excuse to find a way to LOOK like you give a fuck about the environment without putting in the effort or materials needed to accomplish the task
Paper straws were actually the norm even in the late 70s and early 80s, at least when it came to fast food and take-away places. I remember when plastic finally replaced the shitty paper straws and I could actually finish a milkshake without getting a second straw. The plastic straw, alongside the plastic bag, was widely adopted at least partly as a way to prevent deforestation by reducing paper use, which makes the current performative paper straw adoption even more retarded.

why is nobody adopting glass straws? i mean, obviously it won't work with takeaway, but in sit down locations like bars/restaurants/cafes and the likes, they'd be excellent! don't taste bad, don't rot or rust, last long, easy to clean, and if produced properly they won't break easily
metal isn't a bad option too, we already use metal utensils, what's wrong with straws?
As far as disposable goes, I've seen a few restaurants use pasta as straws, it's really solid and you could probably use the same straw for hours without it breaking down significantly.

And the fear around straws is partially because people steal them, but also that they're a nightmare to properly clean in the industrial-sized dishwashers used in large kitchens, they require manual cleaning, and that's not a option when you have to clean hundreds of them per hour.

Problem with pasta straws is they retain "enough" integrity for a while but impart the taste of uncooked pasta in your mouth (and I assume the liquid of your drink itself).

Also straws are a solution to a problem that doesn't need to exist, sell me soda that's refrigerator temperature that isn't 3/4 ice by volume and I won't need a straw.

this seems to be a common human way of thinking in regard to 'fixing' issues, where we sorta see the problem in the end, but not the root of the problem or how our solution will exacerbate it
this especially started being common throughout the 50s to 2000s where we saw a lot of modernization and industry, where we discovered a lot of disjointed information but didn't know how to approach it
>"oh noes, don't make coats out of leather! you're killing cows!"
>make it out of plastic that ends up hurting the environment way more in the long run
>"what? fat makes you unhealthy? remove the fat from food!"
>replace it with sugars and processed oils that cause higher production of fat in the body
it's like learning that fire is hot so you avoid the color red
You as a man ,I assume
there are no men on the kiwifarms
were all women here

It occurs to me only in this very moment why an old woman I used to know refused to eat any peanut products.
She said it was because of the high likelihood of contamination, which is possible, but now I'm thinking maybe this was also a factor.

I have a stainless steel straw. It's actually good for really cold drinks like slushies or even just ice water. I think that it's mostly a burgerclap thing to be obsessed with ice water.

Thanks for reminding me of the "Love Roses" (cheap crackpipes sold under a legal loophole)

Oh, gosh. Two of the stupidest ecofag arguments ever are "wasting water" (it just returns to the water cycle, idiot) and deforestation. There are more trees now then there were at the start of the industrial revolution.

Sadly not enough niggers on BlueSky to find anything really funny, but apparently AI has, predictably, been niggerfied:
