UN Mexico says Canada wishes it had its ‘cultural riches’ amid tariffs feud - In an effort to gain an upper hand, both the leader of Canada and the leader of Mexico have worked to cast the other as ill-prepared to meet the challenges, amid warnings from experts that Trump “loves to divide and conquer”.

Mexico’s president has said Canadians “could only wish they had the cultural riches” of her country as tensions mount between the two nations, caught in a feud over tariffs and trade exacerbated by Donald Trump.

The US president-elect threatened in a social media post last week to apply devastating levies of 25% on all goods and services from both countries, and to keep them in place until “such time as drugs, in particular fentanyl, and all illegal aliens stop this invasion of our country!”

Since then, both Mexico and Canada have worked to gain assurances from Trump that the tariffs, which would prove catastrophic to their economies, would be walked back.

But in an effort to gain an upper hand, both leaders have worked to cast the other as ill-prepared to meet the challenges, amid warnings from experts that Trump “loves to divide and conquer”.

Even before Trump’s announcement, the Canadian prime minister, Justin Trudeau, and a handful of provincial premiers had mused openly about cutting Mexico out of future trade talks, instead pivoting towards a Canada-US trade pact – a move that Mexico’s lead negotiator called a “betrayal”.

But federal ministers and diplomats have continued to frame Canada’s handling of the border and fentanyl by contrasting its actions against those of Mexico.

In late November, Canada’s immigration minister, Marc Miller, likened the 23,000 interceptions by US officials at the northern border in 2023 to a “significant weekend at the Mexico border”, where 1,530,523 “encounters” were recorded last year.

Trudeau and Trump met at the president-elect’s Florida resort on Sunday, discussing trade and migration. The dinner between the two was a diplomatic win for Trudeau, who became the first G7 leader to meet with Trump.

Two days after the meeting, Trump posted an AI-generated image of himself standing atop a mountain range, a Canadian flag by his side with the caption “Oh Canada!”

Canada’s ambassador to the the United States, Kirsten Hillman, told reporters the meeting was productive despite receiving no assurances from Trump that he would walk back the tariffs.

“The message that our border is so vastly different than the Mexican border was really understood,” Hillman said of the meeting between the two leaders.

In a Monday press conference, the Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaum, said Mexico “must be respected, especially by its trading partners”.

Sheinbaum, who held her own phone call with Trump last week to discuss drugs and migration, is under immense pressure to convince the president-elect her country is capable of handling migration at the border and the smuggling of precursors used to make fentanyl.

Late on Tuesday, she told reporters Canada has “a very serious problem with fentanyl consumption”, more than Mexico, citing recent drug-decriminalization measures that proved controversial.

“We are not going to fall for a provocation of which country is better,” she said, adding that her country was increasingly being used as a political foil.

“Mexico should not be used as part of [Canadian] electoral campaigns,” she said.

Sheinbaum then dug deeper, adding that Canada “could only wish they had the cultural riches Mexico has”, pointing out her country has civilizations dating back thousands of years.

Canada’s foreign minister, Mélanie Joly, said in response she believes that “many conversations, when it comes to diplomacy, are always better when they remain private”.

Even on our worst rez you don't have people being decapitated and hung from bridges by guys that walk around openly and illegally armed to the teeth.
I dunno man, in Mexico its still common practice if someone touches your kids that shouldnt or maybe your younger family, brutally murdering them is seen as righteous and correct course of action that doesn't prosecute the person who did it.

I deal with some leftists of this stripe on a nearly daily basis. I don't think anyone will deny that the Burgers have made their fair share to earn ire around the world; but the derangement that comes into play when anyone mentions the US in their presence is awe-striking to anyone minimally familiar with its history. These are people who have traveled to nearly every country in Europe, say that Natives are the true owners of the land and important civilizational bastions, claim to love blacks and African culture, but will get really uncomfortable and evasive if you suggest they spend a week in the Caribbean instead of visiting Paris for the 4th time.

Their thought process can be boiled down to: "Africa has culture, Europe has culture, the Feather Indians have culture. The mixture of these cultures throughout the New World resulted in, surprise surprise, heckin' wholesome 100emoji awesome new cultures everywhere in the Americas (as long as those people are sufficiently brown or brown-adjacent). By being majority white and embracing eebul capitalism, however, Americans have no culture or claim to it, they simply are a herd of undifferentiated carbon-based humanoid lifeforms who eat burgers while driving their trucks from their McMansions to the nearest soulless skyscraper. Canadians are basically the same, but politer and Frencher."

Canadians wish they had any culture at all. Decades of "multiculturalism" pushed by the Federal Government meant that Canada never really developed any real cultural identity after the cUK's let them be their own nation.

Canada is a conglomeration of various immigrants whole were told to cling to their old nations values just to oppose the melting pot of the US. Yes even in the old days of yore the primary concern of Canadians politicians was to be not the US.

And after almost 100 years of this shit which country is better off huh?

Trump didn’t win the tariff wars he started in 2018 and he won’t win this time either.

Canada at least doesn't prostitute its children for money. Not yet anyway. Mexico is there. In Mexico the only laws are the greenback and the peso. I know you're bitter about your own country fren, but Mexico is just hell. When you hear them speaking spic, you know they aren't saying anything nice. I hope Trump double tarrifs them and starts carpet bombing their cartel headquarters

French canada and nova scotia exist.

Cartels are a cultural richness them northerners just don't get. 🤠

Saying she's not really a Mexican because she's a third immigrant from Europe is a strange insult given that millions of Poles, Czechs, and Germans immigrated to various Latin American nations in the late 19th century, particularly Mexico. Their descendents number in the tens of millions.
Steinbaum may be a Jewish woman and therefore a whore, but she will not fuck you. White-knighting her is silly.

I think you confused Nova Scotia with Newfoundland. Not that it's great here, but at least we have a distinct culture that is still like 97% white that people are actually proud of even if it's basically just drunken Irish fishermen being retarded. I'd say there's like 20-30% of the population who think joining Canada was a massive mistake as well and we'd probably have been better off trying to join the US. Also for like the last 20 years we have refused to take equalization and rarely take federal government money except for normal shit unlike the other Atlantic provinces or the Quebequeers, the latter of which is our mortal enemy and pretty much anyone in this province will openly say fuck those French faggots and go off into a 5 minute rant if asked what they think about Quebec.

I'm not one to bat for Mexico (see below) but from what I have seen, Canadian culture basically boils down to: "America sucks we're so much better than them," doing the opposite of whatever America does, being leftoid, weird French people, moose, and maple syrup. Moose and syrup are cool and all, but it doesn't take much for a culture to look superior in comparison. At least Mexico's food is better.

Isn't marrying off your pre-teen daughter to a dude in his 20s still accepted publicly today in some parts of Mexico? There was a case of this happening among the "undocumented" somewhere in the USA where a teacher (I think) called CPS because she saw pictures of a baby shower for a 13 and 25 year old on Facebook.

A trade war with Canada? What the fuck? We should be trying to bind them to us even more tighly, not pushing them away.

Canada is America's piggy bank and we cannot endanger our free access to our minerals and oil that are within their borders.

It got an A&N thread as well, but mexicans were also calling for the guy's head in social media comments that were shown inside of the article, so idk. The main problem is that some regions of Mexico do have an insanely low AoC, 12 or something like that, extremely deviant
