the CEOs should be going to prison. Instead the guy who was shot was able to do insider trading and sell $12 million worth of stock.
I have been saying this for a while but this is the kind of thing that is a symptom of a dying society,
A high trust society leaves blood feud behind and delegates justice to the state - the conviction, investigation and execution parts. It’s a big deal to do that because we have a deeply rooted need for justice. Even monkeys and other animals know if you’ve cheated them and get pissed off by it. It’s a really hard wired need.
We can allow the state to do the justice stuff IF and only if we FEEL that justice is actually done. When we start to see things like CEOs acting in ways that kill people with no pushback, we feel that deeply. It’s exactly the same with things like in the uk where people who DO bad things, like killers and nonces, are getting no jail time while people who SAY things the state doesn’t like get locked up. Or the summer of love, or Anita’s forty but mainly peaceful protests. It’s not fair.
I believe this pushes us closer to a threshold and will take just a few events to push us past it. Once that’s crossed, people no longer feel there is any justice but they NEED justice. They don’t just want it, it’s right down there at the base of our being, even monkeys need it. If the state won’t do it right, you will get vigilantism and you will get people no longer respecting and fearing the apparatus of the state. The state has lost all the respect already, only the fear is left, but I think that too is going
TPTB need to understand what a serious issue this is. Bread and circuses and at least the reasonable appearance of jut or are all that’s keeping the lid on a lot of pressure.
We have a saying that you may as well be hanged for a sheep as a lamb, and I think TPTB are pushing people to the point that may be explained to them rather more directly than they’d like.
A man has walked up to someone ‘important’ and shot him in broad daylight and the whole spectrum of internet reaction is leaning towards ‘good.’ When was the last time that happened? TPTB should be taking a good hard look at this and taking the boot off our necks a bit if they have any sense at all
