Sectumsempra!

HBO is circling British actor Paapa Essiedu to play one of the hottest TV roles being cast this year.

The I May Destroy You actor is up for the role of Professor Severus Snape in HBO’s Harry Potter TV series, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. Sources say the actor has been offered the part although it is not clear if negotiations have begun in earnest.

Snape is the wickedly smart and casually cruel Hogwarts potions master who comes across as the story’s primary antagonist in the show’s first season, which will be based upon author J.K. Rowling‘s 1997 debut novel, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. The role was famously played by the late Alan Rickman across eight Warner Bros. films.

So far, no actors have been officially cast in the Harry Potter series, which is aiming for a 2026 debut, although Bridge of Spies actor Mark Rylance is close to being signed for the critical role of the wise and powerful Headmaster Albus Dumbledore. The show is hot enough to conjure up several actor rumors, although the ones summoning Cillian Murphy for the role of Lord Voldemort are not correct, sources add.

Essiedu started his career at the Royal Shakespeare Company, where he played the title role in productions of Hamlet and King Lear. He’s since had roles in the films Murder on the Orient Express and Men and in TV shows Gangs of London, The Lazarus Project and the Black Mirror episode “Demon 79.”

If Essiedu lands the role, it will also be an example of HBO following through on its promise that the series would have a diverse cast (the films were sometimes criticized for having an entirely white core cast) and will presumably lead to a rather fresh take on the character.

In a statement regarding Esseidu’s casting, HBO said, “We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation. As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals.”

The series is described as “a faithful adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter book series by author and executive producer J.K. Rowling. The series will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail and much-loved characters Harry Potter fans have loved for over 25 years. Each season will bring Harry Potter and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world, while the original, classic and cherished films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally.”

The series is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner. Mark Mylod will executive produce and direct multiple episodes of the series for HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. The series is executive produced Rowling, Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films.

I doubt the show will fail outright but I have a sneaking feeling it’s going to be disappointing for HBO. The enthusiasm for the series isn’t there and a lot of her die hard fans are either angry cause she’s a terf or are not going to be happy with the race swapping.

I wonder if they actually swap gingers with niggers and turn Weasleys black. Also HP women are crazy about Alan Rickman, even those who disavowed Rowling and Potter. No actor would seem good in role in comparison so maybe producers trying to play racist card early
Ha, Niggeradium Buttockgropaaaaa!

It’s actually really common in the fandom to portray Harry as mixed race since apparently his fathers ethnicity is never clearly stated in the book. I remember a couple years ago people were convinced that he was and there was lots of fanart of him mixed and if you complained about it you were told you CLEARLY didn't pay attention to the book. I think when JK Rowling race swapped Hermione after writing the series and even though in the book it's clear that she is white the fandom started just making shit up as well.
now that's just disgusting

It's also stupid because as we see, the Dursleys are White. Petunia is White so that means Lily was White too. James Potter is from a British Pureblood family and very, very, very few - if any, were likely to be black at all, especially given the long history of magical families in Magical Britain.

HBO Says ‘Harry Potter’ Series Will ‘Benefit’ From J.K. Rowling’s Involvement: She ‘Has the Right to Express Her Personal Views’
Rowling is a typical radfem. every single complaint she has against trannies is about how girls and women are being affected by a social contagion that people like her are responsible for. globohomo is only bad because it started targeting her. the more "wins" she gets the more she'll steer back towards making the Harry Potter universe as gay and brown and diverse as possible
ok we got the gross nigger for JK Rowling's newest woman moment show. now the question is who are they going to homo-fy and how many "ace" women is she going to add?

Gonna be hilarious if they show Harry's dad using that lynching spell on Snape now.

TBH this is really dumb raceswap. They could just do the ginger to nigger swap and cover their quota well enough. Snape is one of the few character who is pretty well described. Sickly yellowish skin, greasy hair, hooked nose man.

I’ve actually seen this! I know there are some folks who have convinced themselves that James Potter was Indian. They justify this never being mentioned in the books because “British people aren’t obsessed with race/ethnicity like Americans” and maybe that is true but it’s utterly absurd to believe this would never be mentioned at all.

he's only revealed as a good guy 6/7 through the story. Meaning, the protagonists spend a lot of screentime hating on a black person
Yeah, tricky thing about race-swapping villains is that it runs counter to the "Whites bad, blacks heroic" requirement. I can't see them making their DEI swap genuinely dislikable and villainous for any length of time, so they'll probably either abandon it five minutes in, or rework it so that instead of an actual (apparent) bad guy, he'll be "bad" in a Too Kool For Skool rebellious way.

The rest of the wizards will have to be rewritten as stodgy, uptight dinosaurs in desperate need of cultural enrichment (a twerkfest). And we can call it "Martin Lawrence and the Pale Stale Males Who Refused to Get Jiggy With It".

>Gross skin color
>Greasy black hair
>Eyes like tunnels
>Hook nose
>Nerdy
>Feels superior to people around him despite having grown up in very humble circumstances
>Wears a smock
>Repressed incel rage

There's clearly only one race this man can be: the Eternal Jeet.

"Do not redeem, Potter!"

Well, number one obviously he is black. That’s the obvious part. But it’s more than that. Snape had iconic long hair. Numerous times people told me I was trying to look like professor snape because of my hair. So his hair would be all wrong by casting a African American with short hair. Professor snape is suppose to have long brown hair parted in the middle! Plus he is black. But this is not about skin color tho. This is about attacking cultural for the sake of winning woke points. Why should culture has to suffer just because you want to erase white people! I am feeling discriminated against right now as a white person. I have long hair.

You know how people sometimes ask, “are you trying to erase black lives by doing this?” Well this is an actual situation where they are trying to erase white lives!
