There is no real consensus so far on whether the guy was a professional hitman.

Even if it were a professional hitman, they would probably charge way more for taking retard risks to begin with:

• A fairly high profile target
• Having to shoot the target outside of a major hotel
• Having to shoot the target in the middle of NYC
• Have to leave bullet shells at the scene of the crime which are inscribed with an ideological message

If this were a professional hitman they would probably refuse the job because its just taking too many risks. It means that maybe a cop posted up down the street that would have heard the shots and respond immediately doesn't hear the shots. It means that any cop who does hear the shots thinks they came from a lot further away than they did. It means that ten 911 calls from witnesses turns into five. It means that a big panic because there's an active shooter on the loose turns into a very small, very localised panic. Silencers don't make guns quiet but they can certainly make them somewhat less obnoxiously loud and attention-grabbing to everyone in the area.

Personally though I think those benefits probably weren't worth the risk of lugging around a very obviously illegal handgun for ten days in NYC, but that's the choice the shooter made.
