And you hit on what I'm saying, subsonic plus an overly long suppressor needs a booster to help cycle the pistol. The suppressor by design is dissipating the gas and pressure, too long and you may have this issue, it's secondary to weight.

Also as I said in another post, the shooter likely knew the gun did this. He wasn't surprised when it jammed.

Swing and a miss, but this is a common misconception with subsonic rounds, so I'm just mad at the internet and public education, not you in particular.

Subsonic 9mm actually has more recoil than regular 9mm due to the weight of the bullet. Energy is mass x velocity. The bullets are heavier so that they have the same kinetic energy as the lighter rounds when driven at the same operating pressure, which is why they cycle just fine despite the subsonic velocity. The powder charges are the same.

9mm +P+ won't cycle a can without a booster, too. The best you get is what you just saw, erratic function with stovepipes or the gun fails to cycle all together.

As a side note, the pistol failing to properly function actually makes it more quiet, as you no longer have the sound of the action. You actually saw this with those "Hush puppy" prototype pistols posted earlier in this thread, which had non-boosted cans, and an actual lever on the Beretta to lock the slide purposefully so that it would not cycle. Ironically the Beretta 92 is one of the handful of pistols that do not need a booster due to not having a Browning tilting lock-up action.
