2024 Syrian opposition offensives - The first Syrian rebel offensive against Government forces since March 2020

Will the rebels attack/take over Russias air/naval base? I know Turkey has heavily supported these rebels so maybe they did a backdoor deal with Russia & Rebels to leave their bases alone? Someone correct me if they know anything ty
There is no way to supply this base anymore, so they will have to fuck off without a fight sooner or later anyway.

Didn't Gaddafi die conveniently right after he spoke out against the petrodollar, or when he said he was going to use another currency? Seems self explanatory to me.
He had a shitload of problems with his neighbours and Western countries way before that and he didn't have the leverage to pull off "the end of petrodollar". Wishful conspiracy thinking.

TBCF he also said some shit about UFOs and ancient aliens not too long before the final wave of festivities kicked off, so its really hard to pin point anything.

It is very likely Russia abandons Tartus base and the Rebels allow them to withdraw. Next most likely is the base is put under seige, under lock down, by 2600 buff, illiterate Jihadis until the new government is officially formed. There is nothing to be gained by needlessly provoking Russia.
I wonder if Turkey will use these bases and ports as leverage against Russia to pursue its interests in Caucasus and maybe even Ukraine. Or vice versa, I wouldn't be surprised if all that was just a 14d chess and Assad was sold out by Russia for favors from Erdogan.

I'm not surprised this happen. Russia was propping up the Assad regime in Syria. Russia is currently bogged down in a war in Ukraine and stretched really thin. The Russians are actually losing in Ukraine and having to pay North Korea for help proves this, well it's one of things that prove this. All the people involved with Syria know this, so it was a good time to stir shit up in Syria again. Russia can either have Crimea or it's port in Syria. It can't have it all.

He was also going out of his way to antagonise the west and generally acting like a massive schizo on the international stage, while unsubtly cuddling up to various anti west regimes worldwide once again. Combine with a very long track record of pouring arms and funding to literally hundreds of scumfuck terrorist groups just to piss off the west and you have a pretty clearcut reason why he specifically was singled out for serious air strikes during the Ayrab Spring.

As heartbreaking as it is to hear, not everybody on Hilldawg's shitlist was/is some divinely inspired saint on the verge of bringing about some #based utopia.

Look on the bright side. Now the Syrian refugees can go back to Syria cause it's safe now, right?
They're making this argument in Europe on the news. They're suggesting that with a moderate government they can begin repatriating the immigrants already set to be deported, since many governments refused to deport syrians to a war zone. Since right wing parties are winning, they actually might.

That is not true, though. HTS and ISIS were both al-Qaeda affiliated at some point, but they were never functionally the same group. They operated in different parts of Syria, had different aims and different leadership. Most notably, al Nusra were always almost exclusively Syrian, whereas ISIS was dominated by Iraqis and had many foreigners. I don't think it is correct to say, that one was a splinter group of the other, in any meaningful way.

I also don't think HTS ideological realignment, while definitely helpful, was the deciding factor. What made the difference was the neutralisation of hizbollah and Russia as actors in Syria.

I hope Syria dies not descend into chaos as Iraq did with the removal of Saddam. But it is gratifying to see the Assad regime go. The regime was brutal and cruel in the extreme.

Statement from HTS

Statement No. (1) In the name of God, the most gracious, the most merciful O free sons of Syria, After many years of injustice, tyranny and oppression, and after great sacrifices made by the sons and daughters of this dear country, we announce today to the great Syrian people and to the entire world that the regime of Bashar al-Assad has fallen, and that he has fled the country, leaving behind a legacy of destruction and suffering. On this historic day, we declare that the revolutionary and opposition forces have taken control of our beloved Syria, and we affirm our commitment to building a free, just, and democratic state in which all citizens are equal without discrimination. We pledge before God and before the people to the following:
  1. Preserving the unity and sovereignty of Syrian lands.
  2. Protecting all citizens and their property, regardless of their affiliation.
  3. Work to rebuild the state and its institutions on the foundations of freedom and justice.
  4. Striving to achieve comprehensive national reconciliation, and returning refugees and displaced persons to their homes in safety and dignity.
  5. Holding everyone who committed crimes against the Syrian people accountable, in accordance with the law and justice.
We call on all the Syrian people to unite and join hands at this historical stage, and we affirm that the new Syria will not be limited to anyone, but rather a homeland for all. Long live free and proud Syria! May God’s peace, mercy, and blessings be upon you. National Transitional Council Damascus, on 08.12.2024

So this means all those "refugees" can come back now, right? Right??

What I am most curious about is - What's Turkey supposed to get out of this? They backed the rebels and are even moving into Syrian territory. But how does supporting moderate headchoppers help Turkey specifically? Won't this make the migrant crisis worse?
Turkey prefers a worse migrant crisis so it can blackmail the EU. However, the collapse of Assad's regime and the ensuing chaos allow it to make moves against the Kurds.

Looks like /sg/ on /pol/ must have came back at some point, and uh, they're taking it about as well as you can expect them to.
I saw a good point being brought up: There is only a handful of independent arab nations now, at least those that are outside the realm of influence of Saudis, Israel, West ect.
Who do you think will be next to have a sudden and convenient uprising against the current regime? Is there even a next target left, at this point?
