It is happening again.

Gotta be real....of all the countless fucking times I have seen this shit happen to franchises I love.....I am fuckin hyped to see it happen to a franchise that has actively fucking annoyed me for almost two decades now

Seriously I wanna see just how much they mutilate the casting to double virtue signal how notbigoted they are for touching the profane muh-turf series

EDIT: ok.....credit where credit is fuckin due. I went to reddit to soak in some barely repressed seethe and screeching "UR ALL JUS RAYSSISSS" reaction-reactions but found this fucking gem in the rough

I've been wondering whether JKR has been redpilled enough by the backlash that she would fight against woke casting, whether she's just going to go along with it, or whether she will actively support it. Its practically law that they will have to 'diversify' at least a bit though.. As couragerous has she's been in the trans fight I am somewhat pessimistic of their chances to keep hogwarts looking like a realistic 90s era elite UK boarding school even if she wanted to.

They should make a decent 7/10 show about just, classes and school life. Release 3 episodes every season to match the seasons of time, so you get to watch 3 episodes of hogwarts christmas during your own christmas. It'd be real-time re-grooming of all those troons who started hating (secretly consuming) modern hogwarts content

Well it's HBO so maybe we'll get a flashback to Hagrid's conception. I've always wondered how that worked out.
It's not HBO technically it's all Warner Brothers. And they just delayed the show until 2027. I would not be surprised if this show is even canceled or delayed for a decade. No production company is capable of shooting ten seasons in ten years before the child actors age out of their roles. HBO, Amazon, and Netflix can barely produce eight episodes in two years for their flagship shows. Amazon's prestige animation show Invincible had so little production support they outsourced their animation to North Korea.

Most companies are barely able to make one season in two years. A ten season Harry Potter show being shot over twenty years? Half the audience will age out of the show instead of just the actors. I don't think Warner Brother or even HBO are actually capable of making this show.

Here are my bets for the diversity draft:
Hermione will be a light skinned black girl who looks like Zendaya and has super curly hair.
Ron will remain white and even red headed because of his chaotic working class family being an insulting background for someone more diverse. Might have one diverse parent, like a white passing hispanxic, so his siblings might be more diverse than him. They will double down on him being dumb, but loyal as a dog to Harry and Hermione.
Harry will be played by a Jew, obviously.
Dumbledore will be a practicing gay in a hidden relationship with some teacher, black Snape for instance.
A popular character will be played by a trans actor.
JK Rowling will openly voice her support for all of the above.
Draco will be book accurate.

Dumbledore will be black.

When I run the woke Hollywood algorithm through my head, Dumbledore comes out as a very African looking black woman with a bad hair style. The JK of it all will have some mitigating factor of it, so they may stay male but will have a bold fashion choice to hammer home the gay of it all.

The woke mindset is full of racist stereotypes and thinking. Magic is ancient, primitive times before the modern eras of enlightenment. Which they then assume is black. They assume experts and people with authority are by default male. So they have to cast them white.

"We will have to seek out the world's greatest scientists, Namobo."
*Enters a strong confident black women*
"You were expecting someone different? You racist, misogynist!"

I look forward to a black man bullying a white kid because he couldnt fuck his ginger mother. I also look forward to the "incel Snape" discourse to mysteriously - magically almost - shift to the series "fixing" his character by, idk, im sure theyll invent some cosmetic reason why it's different this time

Like when Marvel introduced three characters - Riri, Shuri and Moon Girl - who all happened to be genius black girls

this series is DOA, the collective groan about modern media when the announcement hit was like the media equivalent of the ceo assassination discourse. Everyone on all sides had the exact same opinion and its why media is dying. no one thinks this series will be A. Good or B. follow the books or C. not get diversified in nonsensical ways. Its rather telling that everyone also knows if the nigger is cast as snape they're just completely change the character arc when its arguably the most important one in the story. even the most soy-filled redditors basically admit they're lying about everything else because they know hollywood won't let niggers be seen in a bad light or have flaws or look like an asshole.

the same way Star Trek is the 90s personified, Harry Potter is the 2000s personified, and is why any adaption or continuance of the work fails the same way Nu-trek fails. the culture has changed too much and any accurate work would be seen the same way nazi propaganda films are.
One of the biggest cuts in that film iirc.
one of the funnier things about the special effects from the original films, especially the early ones, is that the cost to do them is so cheap now that you really could make the same level of special effects on a tv budget, wasn't all the quidditch and invisible cloak scenes literally just basic chroma key? like even burner phones can do that now. add in consumer level drones and you can very easily make a quidditch match on your own that looks relatively ok.

Albus Dumbledore, real name Albus Hoyabembe, White orphan, his birth parents were humanitarian aid workers and he was adopted by Nigerian wizards. Hogwarts is named as such in their honor, as they were hunting wild boars when they found the baby Albus.

it was so disappointing when they announced that this was gonna be just the seven books, a book a season and re go-over what we already saw in the movies that are already well liked and appreciated. there is some potential i guess in having more time to be able to expand on characters and their relationships and history and lore of hogwarts and the world but i feel that is going to have diminishing returns. would have been much better to have just been something brand new. i remember ign did a gag video of an aurors series for april fools day. something like that would be great. like i want to know more about the expanded lore and characters than go over harry, ron and hermione again. while they are beloved for sure they were never characters that were all that interesting. definitely not enough to do it over twice.... but hey they have got a low bar with the travesty that rings of power is.

The real reason has to do with long term money. Warner Brothers wants to reboot essentially anything in their back catalog that has old style contracts of syndication and royalties. So their model of rebooting something like Harry Potter is really just replacing it. Replacing the old movies with newer ones where the actors all have much less generous contracts. And the studio can keep the finances more secretive.
