US Portland, Oregon Megathread - Tales from The Rose City

Didn't see much of a thread regarding all the fine antics of Portland and the people who live there, so I thought to make one.

Lesbian bar shuts down one week after opening because they weren't woke enough

Doc Marie’s is a lesbian bar that opened on July 1st of this year with the hope of bringing more inclusivity to the city of Portland. But just one week after their grand opening they were forced to shut down because of complaints that the bar was not a “safe space.” Similar to the story I wrote a few weeks ago about the queer-owned cafe in Philadelphia that was shut down by employees for not being woke enough, Doc Marie’s was cannibalized by the woke mob.

The crowd on opening day was huge. One woman said that the line for entry on opening night was “wrapped around the block” with “literally 200 lesbians” waiting to get in.

But the excitement about a new progressive hangout dissipated quickly. Within days, Doc Marie’s found itself on the receiving end of accusations of not being inclusive enough for trans people and people of color. Despite mask mandates being lifted in Portland, patrons accused the bar of not implementing enough COVID safety measures. Patrons also claimed that Doc Marie’s had “culturally appropriative art” on the walls.
One TikToker, who says she attended the grand opening, breaks down the accusations against the bar:

Employees of Doc Marie’s created an Instagram page to echo these concerns. They claimed that the owners weren’t proactive enough in creating a safe space and accused the owners of racism. The employees also demanded that the bar host “free opportunities for education” for the community.

Eventually, the employees demanded the owners relinquish ownership of the bar and hand the business to them. The owners were given a “24-hour deadline” to adhere to the ludicrous demands.

Just five days after opening, the bar announced on July 6th that they had to close temporarily in order to address the cries from the woke mob for a “safe and inclusive space.”

Surrendering to the woke mob doesn’t appear to be working out in Doc Marie’s favor, as the bar remains closed with no public plan to reopen.

Oh 100%. Same with Portland. In their mind both candidates are allowing a genocide to happen in Gaza so whoever wins is Hitler.
Yeah no matter what downtown is getting some flavor of "FREE PALESTINE" arson. Kind of wild when you think about it, how embarrassing is that for city governance? Your city is known NATIONALLY for being this unruly shithole full of urban wasteland and used needles, cool great.

From what I gather, virtually everyone is an anxious wreck right now. It's like they're all afraid Trump will put them personally in concentration camps, and also assume he's winning anyway. Kind of wild, I'd assume all the college kids would be acting that way but I have friends telling me they know people, the older classic liberal type who listens to NPR and goes to wine tastings, who are clutching their pearls over this.

I'll never forget the night of the 2016 election when a very close family member of mine came to me and was almost in tears talking about how they thought their gay friends were going to be put into death camps. The media really has fucked people up mentally.

There were no riots, how were there no riots?
Seattle had a riot.
I guess it was past their bedtimes.

I guess this sums up the Portland subreddit.

It really goes to show what happens when you don't govern.

Some friends of a friend who live in the area mentioned to me that they had a friend from college who ran for city council. The guy was kind of a douchebag, which was enough to get antifa's attention. They protested his "fascism" outside of his home, and the city did nothing about that level of harassment. This was years before antifa set a fire inside Ted Wheeler's condo building. You reap what you sow.

Maybe this was enough to just buck break them. I hadn't checked the tallies until this morning, he's up like 5 million in the popular vote?

Matches what I've seen from friends over in Portland proper, people are full on "I can't believe so much of the country is brainwashed/racist/hateful/uneducated" rather than yelling about the electoral college or any of the usual cope. I think I saw something about a demonstration scheduled for tonight, or maybe the weekend? I bet we get like one event that goes a bit out of control, but not nights of pure rampage like in the past.

And the real chilling effect is knowing that if you use force to defend yourself, your life gets ruined by criminal charges + dragged through court + legal costs bankrupting you unless you win the lottery and your story goes viral and pads out a big GoFundMe. Look at the subway case with Daniel Perry, trial starts and whoops there's evidence that the guy he subdued was still alive when police apprehended him and he died of an OD or something instead, so they KNEW there's a good chance the guy is innocent but pushed the case forward anyway to ruin his life. What would you prefer, Antifa burns your house down, spend life in prison, go bankrupt defending yourself in court to have your name ruined like Kyle Rittenhouse, or just move out of town?

And apparently Eilish took TriMet to her concert. And by that I'm sure they mean they cleared an entire train car for her and posted a ton of security.
If you want to take rapid transit but turn it into a car for yourself, why not just drive? Surely the same metro that has a mass stabbing every week or so would be a perfect fit for Elish to actually experience the life of a normal person in liberal paradise.

Come for the concert, stay for the robbery.

"Neither confirm nor deny", translation: "we're spouting complete bullshit, so use the horrific metro system like your idol doesn't"

Trimet Bus's in Portland are pretty much safe. The worst I've dealt with when I used to bus was the odd crackhead talking to himself. If someone gets violent (this is very rare most people are just trying to get home from work) they pull over and call the transit police. The MAX is where the stabbings happen and where you need to be on high alert especially if you are downtown.

Quite strange, my experiences in the american mainland being that the metros are typically far safer than the bus whenever I've travelled there but I've also never been to portland beyond a flight layover

It is weird. I do have a theory about it though, on the bus there is a driver who can see you and what you are doing and who can yell at you so this stops most open drug and violent shit. On the MAX the driver is in this enclosed locked drivers room so it looks like no one is watching you so you can just go hog wild. The MAX is also far longer too.

Quite logical, the lack of face to face perceptibility even though they have cameras everywhere gives that illusion. Especially if the max runs on its own train tracks away from the roads like BART or the like, combined with the types of people who live there and aren't doing well themselves.

God what a worthless whore. I wonder how many real humans got kicked off public transport so this worthless whore could pretend to be a normie by riding "public transport."
