The issue is not that some hick recognized him and snitched, the issue is that /ourguy/ has not gotten rid of the fake ID and the gun that tie him to the crime he commited 5 days ago. If he truly didn't want to get caught, he would have gotten rid of those by now.

No, it's worse than that. His problem was greed. He kept those items because he wanted to either use them again or keep a memento. He was likely even dressed the same way. He knew he had it in the bag but that overconfidence got him.
