Parent company of UnitedHealthcare thanks authorities after arrest of CEO shooting suspect
UnitedHealth thanked law enforcement for apprehending the man suspected of shooting and killing CEO Brian Thompson in midtown Manhattan last week.“Our hope is that today’s apprehension brings some relief to Brian’s family, friends, colleagues, and the many others affected by this unspeakable tragedy,” a spokesperson for UnitedHealth Group said in a statement Tuesday.
UnitedHealth Group is the parent company of health insurance company UnitedHealthcare. The company is working with authorities on the ongoing investigation, the statement said.
“We thank law enforcement and will continue to work with them on this investigation. We ask that everyone respect the family’s privacy as they mourn,” the statement added.
It took a long time for an apparent perfect killing to come in the age of social media virality. The copycats might not be following soon because it is still a lot of work to do this, even if you got lazy about details like the getaway. Although there is no doubt that this has implanted the idea that you can be celebrated as a folk hero if you pick the right target, and that there are many soft targets for people to hate.I really think that all it takes is another one in the next couple of days before christmas on someone big, and it's over. If people figure out just some guy with a gun and a bike can do this, that's a couple hundred million people in poverty.
I'm really worried about this escalating though. I hope there isn't a bombing or an organized mass casualty event because then the whole country might be in trouble.
It will get old fast if copycats pick targets that are less hated or are politically contentious. Only small enough doses of lawlessness will be tolerated, unless the public is in a sufficiently revolutionary mood.
I was gonna say more but I had this in draft, w/e.
