UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson fatally shot outside Hilton hotel in Midtown in targeted attack: cops - Just Part and Parcel of visiting a Big City

I like how Yelp has been deleting all the fake/any negative reviews for the McDonalds past the time he got caught. Except for this one before the whole incident.

I take this as Yelp vouching for it's accuracy as a real and genuine review.

He supposedly had Mein Kampf on his Goodreads account or something.
He simply had a ton of political philosophy on there. From a spectrum so broad that it's hard to draw much from it beyond he found political philosophy interesting. He strikes me as one of those strange Ala carte academic philosophers who's actual beliefs are at best situational and cynical self serving.

Most total hip replacements in the US require an inpatient stay and are paid for by Medicare (65 years old or disabled). The procedure and hospital stay is usually long enough that Medicare part A kicks in. That means about $1,400 out of pocket.
I’m talking about if you’re paying privately without Medicare. Or shit, how much is a private insurance billed?

I looked it up, and with an average price of over 40.000$ (and up to over $70K) it seems that something is fucked in the US healthcare system.

he's already played his cards VERY nice. (hmu luigi)

i honestly think he might get a sentence but with parole. the method wasn't particularly cruel, it was in response to something that i think even the most mild-mannered person would snap over. Sirhan Sirhan, RFK Sr's assassin has had constant chances for parole.

It'll be interesting to see if he has mitigating factors, Uncle Ted only got w/out parole because he murdered multiple people.
What's the technical difference between 1st and 2nd degree murder? Luigi's was premeditated right, does it mean that it's 1st degree?

FWIW, they never mentioned he had a phone on him. If he did have a phone he probably would have got delivery or something.
If he used a laptop on their WiFi they could have pinned him immediately, if they knew who they were looking for at that point (which the NY mayor claimed they did).
That identity most likely came from the phone he dropped.

Someone explained the technical details earlier, it seems highly plausible.

It's all estimated off of medicare. No one knows the private side because the health insurers consider that information a trade/business secret and do their best not share it, even with congress. It can vary from hospital to hospital and surgeon to surgeon.

The insurers do everything they can to delay major orthopedic surgeries until someone is on medicare and they don't have to pay for it.

edit: it can vary from hospital to hospital and doctor to doctor with the exact same plan - the patient pays the same but the reimbursement is different.

A friend of mine went in for a total hip replacement at Brigham Women's in MA, the total was around $97,000. she ended up paying about $9,500. She had insurance through Aetna.

A 1st-degree murder must have three key aspects:

Intent: A 1st-degree murder must be committed with some sort of intent to kill the person. The murderer must therefore have attacked or harmed their victim with the purpose of ending their life or doing evil.
Deliberation and Premeditation: Deliberation and premeditation are essential parts of quantifying a first-degree murder. This type of crime must be purposeful and planned out, rather than simply occurring in the heat of the moment.
“Malice Aforethought”: “Malice aforethought” is a legal term that basically means that a person who committed the murder did so with an intent to kill and a general disregard for human life.

I believe he has all 3.

There is absolutely no way these are out of pocket costs.

Even if you have no insurance and get billed full price you can still negotiate it down and will pay a fraction of the cost, in installments. No one is paying $20,000 for a hip replacement unless they have some bare bones HDHP, but even then you have to account for the tax savings and potential growth of the HSA in that case.

I would bet that what really breaks people is chronic care.

I’m just waiting for more lolcow personal details to come out of his personal life.

I don’t view him as a hero for a killing a guy in cold blood, that’s just what Italians do. I can see why people celebrate, but I find the glazing of him gay. I can even respect him a bit for doing it, but my estimation of him goes down the minute I see a Pokeman on the manifesto or that cringe as gladiator shit.

Remember to have fun and don’t take this too seriously.

Jeremy Hambly made a video today claiming they arrested the wrong guy. Apparently Luigi is telling the police that some of the items found in his possession were planted after the arrest. Jeremy has done a pretty poor job of reading the room on this topic so far. He thinks Brian was killed for being a CEO and only far lefties would ever want to kill a CEO.

Yeah, this is pretty clear. It was a cold blooded murder. I don't think the guy can be trusted not to do a repeat even when he's 70.

As I get older I'm starting to really appreciate the twenty years for 2nd degree. An 18 year old will be 38, and most people have mellowed substantially by then. If they haven't they're going to keep getting in trouble in prison.
