A lot of the people happy about the CEO’s death voted for Obamacare which transformed health insurance from low cost plans that covered catastrophic events to expensive plans that prepay all medical care. Because that’s incredibly expensive, rationing of some sort is necessary, which is why insurance companies deny care that they view as “unreasonable”. Sarah Palin warned about “death panels” if Obamacare was passed and was harshly ridiculed for it, but she was 100% right.

The only difference with a single payer system is that you’re denied care before it’s administered rather than being stuck with a bill afterwards. It’s strictly worse than the current system as I’d rather be alive and indebted than dead.

The problem isn’t as much total monetary support, which as you outlined isn’t a huge amount (quick’n’dirty numbers say $320B over 78 years is only an average of ~$4B, and their annual military budget is $22B), it’s more the fact that we’ve been the one fighting their wars in recent years, and have been the ones throwing our weight around to protect them before that.
