Smh so many "right wing" ppl claim to be Christians yet did not understand the core of his message.
Romans 12:17-21: "Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary:
“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."
Vengeance is the same kind of sin as all others - attempting to take God's place by deciding for ourselves what is right and wrong, rather than trusting in his judgement, both now and on the last day.
Or perhaps, if we're taking the example of Jesus most closely, we can look at the Garden of Gethsemene. Matthew 20:50-54: "Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. With that, one of Jesus’ companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear. “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?”
Peter felt he was just in attacking those who came to unjustly arrest (and, ultimately, crucify) Jesus - yet Jesus warned him not to try and fix the injustice through violence, but to let God's work be done.
If one wishes to say that they are not a Christian, therefore they are not held to these standards, who am I to disagree? (Though our society was built on this foundation, so trying to take a wrecking ball to mercy will not end well).
But any follower of Jesus should see the issue here clearly. Dehumanisation by insurance companies cannot be solved by further dehumanisation in the name of vengeance.
