Take it with a grain of salt.

Shouldn't they finish remaking FF7 first?
I agree, it's why I assume it's fake, because of the summer 2025 release window. That gives it away as fake. Ain't no way it'd be releasing that soon. They're gonna want to shit out FF7R3 first, probably.

Also, they're gonna want to get it on Switch 2, and I highly doubt we get a summer release for Switch 2.

I think it's legit personally. As a sort of olive branch to classic fans.

Ain't no way this probably woke, allegedly more action-oriented remake shit out by their secondary team on a probably a much lower budget is going to act as much of an olive branch. Plus they said they want to get their games on more platforms, so waiting for Switch 2's probable 2025 Christmas season release to drop it as a launch game would make a lot more sense.

But who knows, maybe Square really is stupid enough to leave Nintendo out of their plans again after failing to sell well on PS5 so far.

I probably would be thinking the same thing but I remember seeing the Mario RPG Switch announcement drop just a few months before it got released. That game was thought to be something that would NEVER get a remake or upgrade, but it happened behind closed doors and everyone was happy with it. Considering that FF9 was detailed in the Nvidia leak, it wouldn't surprise me too much if it got announced now. No way it's going to get the FF7 remake treatment, but no one says it has to be a Sony exclusive either (as if anyone but Sony wants that anyways).

As for the Switch 2, blame Nintendo for dragging their ass. Not Square's problem.

Yeah but that's a completely different situation, being an even lower budget game and extremely faithful remake, plus it's Switch exclusive so there was never any question about platform.

If it releases in the summer, assuming we don't get a random ass Switch 2 summer release, that means the only consoles it'll release for are PS5 where FF7 & 16 underperformed, and Xbox, but I don't think Xbox will help much tbh. The only big difference would be it releasing on PC too.

I don't expect a current gen experience with FF9R, but I also don't expect it to be so cheaply produced it's Switch 1 compatible either.

It's no sweat off Nintendo's ass, it's Square losing money and underperforming to the point they're not doing system exclusivity from here on. That to me means Nintendo primarily, not Xbox, where JRPGs usually don't do that well.

They can always port it later
That's true, but why not delay it a bit and get those launch sales? Historically speaking launch games tend to perform well in general.

I wanted VI to get a remake before IX but oh well
9 is considered the best one nobody ever played so maybe that's the mentality. I would have picked 6 myself but maybe they wanted to put more effort and budget into that particular remake

Everything that gets released on Xbox pretty much gets released on PC as well. The real question is: Epic or Steam? If no Steam, Square has head up ass.
Either way, nothing can get announced for a console that hasn't been showcased yet. They can always port it later, assuming the Switch 2's hardware is able to keep up.
