Culture AP: Numerous drone sightings in New Jersey frustrating but don’t pose safety concern, governor says - Who drone it?

PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) — Dozens of drones have been spotted across New Jersey in recent weeks, including near sensitive sites such as a military research facility, which can be frustrating but don’t appear to pose a public safety concern, Gov. Phil Murphy stressed Monday.

The FBI has been investigating reports about several mysterious nighttime drone flights that started occurring last month across central New Jersey and has asked the public for help. Since then, residents have reported seeing drones in other areas.

While speaking at an unrelated bill signing event in Princeton, Murphy noted there were 49 reports of drones on Sunday, mostly in Hunterdon County. The Democratic governor said those numbers included possible sightings and potentially the same drone being reported more than once.

“This is something we’re taking deadly seriously. I don’t blame people for being frustrated,” Murphy said.

It’s unclear who is piloting the drones and why, but federal and state officials have repeatedly stressed that there is no known threat to public safety.

Drones are legal in New Jersey for recreational and commercial use, but they are subject to local and Federal Aviation Administration regulations and flight restrictions. Drone operators also must be FAA certified. Most, but not all, of the drones spotted in New Jersey were larger than those typically used by hobbyists.

The flights initially raised questions in part because they took place near the Picatinny Arsenal, a U.S. military research and manufacturing facility, and over President-elect Donald Trump’s golf course in Bedminster.

Most of the drones have been spotted along coastal areas, and some of the devices were recently spotted over a large reservoir in Clinton.

The FBI asks that residents share any videos or photos they may have of the flights, along with any other relevant information.

U.S. Rep Chris Smith, a Republican, said he was on Long Beach Island Monday night with Ocean County Sheriff Mike Mastronardy to look into the situation.

“Understandably, New Jersey residents are very alarmed at this significant and reoccurring phenomenon, and the tepid response from our state and federal agencies so far is totally unacceptable,” he said. “The people of New Jersey deserve swift and bold action on the part of our state and federal agencies to investigate, assess, and address the situation immediately and to alleviate the growing concerns of our community.”

Never point out to a redditor that planes also use red, green, and white lights. No alien child, that’s a smegmoid drone from zeta reticulon here to spy on military secrets, not my poor eyesight late at night.
We see through your lies, Santa.
I've seen drones flying over my city too.

Military would have downed them if they were anything other than allied/civilian drones.
There was a report of one being downed but it might have been BS.

Just FYI everyone, the crew on a US Navy destroyer reported being swarmed by 'pyramid shaped' drones and took some footage. It was stars. They were looking at stars through a starscope with a triangular aperture.

Whenever someone says they saw a 'drone' now you have to ask if they actually saw a flying device, or just a spot of light in the sky, because 'drone' is the new UFO.

Can’t one of these little drones cut your neck open if it’s propellers collide with you?
A lot of shit can do that but it's impractical and usually the larger quadcopters if they aren't cheap shit have a little protective ring thing around their propellers unless that's no longer common.

Shoot one out of the sky and you'll find out real quick who owns it.
Really easy to do with these things too, fuck if it's low enough you can hit it with a brick lmao.

I wonder what the muni/county/state laws are about where the top of your property is and if they're in range of it.

Despite what people think, this is a rather big deal. Drones like these could be used to commit hate crimes against trannies, like what happened with Keffals and the Kiwi Farms Intercontinental Air Force (now with Global Strike Capability!)
I always wanted to fly a drone with a loudspeaker set up over a liberal arts college, and have it sound off racist and homophobic slurs.

There's a secret Iranian mothership launching the drones:
That's the last country I would've suspected.

The question that woman posed is pretty important. How are they being recharged? With how lax the government seems to be in something so sutuationally insane, and with how little national coverage there is, this feels more suspicious.

The feds trying to incite war?

PSYOP, FUCKING GAYOP PSYOP.
"BE AFRAID! QUADCOPTERS FROM IRAN ARE WATGHING YOU!"

On sea or orbit?
Neither would have enough range to keep the signal and power for a remote controlled quadcopter. These sightings weren't on the shoreline and if you check the weather in NJ the last few days it's not really optimal drone flying weather. Wind, rain, moisture, thunder, not really stuff that gels with those kinds of electronics.

'Dozens' is quite the understatement. I counted 60 in an hour Saturday night in my town in the western side of the state. I also noticed the incoming flight path to Newark was altered.
I hear "large drones" and I think it's gonna be actual drones,
Some have said they're are some the size of VW Beetles. I haven't seen anything that large.

Maybe I'm just a paranoid schizo, but I feel like this is a WAY bigger deal than anyone seems to be realizing. The govt response is completely nonsensical and I can't understand why this is happening in this way - specifically why anyone would be running lights on at night if they were trying to avoid attention? Unless getting attention was the point? Why are they observing Air Force installations? Is it foreign agents within the US? Is it a US prankster? Is it govt hardware? If so, why?

I don't think we as a society have really come to grips with just how seismic drone technology will be. I know we've all seen the Ukraine footage, but we're making a mistake to think "Well that war over there sucks." Drones are already here. Any large gathering just became a massive liability. If a small group of people, or even a single person, can deploy hundreds and hundreds of drones with rudimentary explosives, what does that do to concerts? Sports stadiums? Airports? And not just large groups of vulnerable people. Electrical infrastructure? Medical infrastructure?

What would New York City look like if all of their hospitals and power relay stations had incendiary devices dropped on them simultaneously? Such a thing could be done for very little money and moderate technical know-how, and we currently have no effective countermeasures.

This is an "any day now" disaster waiting to happen. Like, NOW. We are vulnerable right now.

Wow almost as if the US government wants an excuse to keep chugging the foreverwars!

Dude just throw rocks or shoot the things down it's these drones not the kind actually used to bomb people.

What they want you to believe is iran has an invisible mothership nobody knows the location of somehow, sending these tiny ass things out over the ocean in the shitty rain and wind inland by enough degrees of distance that the easier solution would be that they were just launched in the actual locations they were showing up in. There's several layers of unrealism going on here and it fucking bugs me how every other post feels like a fed trying to get people afraid of dinky fucking quadcopters with lights and cameras on them.

I know that this is supposed to be about drones but can I just say "Fuck Phil Murphy!"? Looking at the fucker makes me sick, fucking crypto kike NY banker scum.
