This almost sounded so absurd it didn't sink in for me. If the guy running it was willing to shelter someone who wants to fuck dogs and children and attempted to lure a child, wouldn't con-goers themselves ALSO have been in danger knowing the guy wasn't gonna bother employing Common Sense(TM) to prevent any "all-age consent accidents"? My immediate thought was that a hotel finding out who the guy was bunking with, what he did and the possible implications would encourage them to blacklist them immediately, if not for public safety than to proactively protect themselves from liability and avoid Rainfurrest 2: Gone Federal Edition. But that's not even mentioning the fact that guys house itself was just waiting to be raided knowing the awful shit that's already been seen on -philes' harddrives from the Zoosadist leaks, even moreso with kids involved.
Then again, the guy just being willing to live under the same roof as a certified woodchipper candidate (I bet the fucker labeled themselves "non-offending" before they tried getting their hands on a child) makes me think he was complicit. That shit doesn't smell like bleeding-heart pity, it smells like sheltering a criminal because you yourself have something bullet-worthy to hide, especially with how eager furries are to share their personal pornography. I hope they checked both hard drives and burned them down to their basic elements, it's the only way.
I will admit part of me does genuinely feel for the people who try(?) to engage with it as a hobby only for the art, cosplay or whatever (if it actually does have effort and isn't just another shitty foam costume), but at that point you might as well branch out into fantasy cosplay in general to make yourself well-rounded and be prepared to bounce ~99% of furries you come into contact with (if they have the guts for aggressive gatekeeping). Talk with the tolerable ones over a fence lined with barbed wire, and if they ever try to suggest any weird shit tell them to fuck off. That'd be the ideal, but god help you if you want to run an online space that way without being attacked by rabid trannies for "muh puritanism" in 2024 or some 'ism/'ist conjured out of thin air, much like the "true and honest wah-maaaan" delusion they bully others into enforcing.
If anyone actually has managed to run such a space and still survives to this day aside from Kiwifarms, my hats off to them for being rightfully stubborn and/or far enough under the radar to be undesirable to the undesirables.
