Okay, despite naming my account after him, I'm out of the loop here. Why are they all calling Jesse a pedophile? Is it just like, a generic "this guy is bad so I'm going to lie about him" attack or did he actually do something (however misconstrued) to warrant that?

I think it derived from their DARVO refrain of "Why are you so obsessed with kid's genitals?" They're desperate to get him to stop reporting on the current state of the research so they keep trying to make it this "Jesse Singal is obsessed with trans kids, Jesse Singal is a pedophile" thing. Carefully eliding that they're the ones that want to fiddle with kid's bits in the first place, of course.

People here mention the "virtuous pedo" article(s?) but lets be real, none of these Bluesky trannies have ever read a lick of his writings. It's all telephone games.

It's strange to me how Jesse admits there's a replication crisis in psychology and recognizes that the tail is wagging the dog when it comes to trans shit, but then reports on something as controversial and nigh-impossible to study as pedophiles so credulously. Pedos and trannies are inherently deceptive personalities (with a significant overlap) but the "science" relies on an insane amount of self-report.

ETA: Worth noting that his article in The Cut, "Here's a Weird New Discovery About Pedophiles" isn't about ways to heal pedophiles (though there's still some "trust the current trend in research, maybe we can make them self-report!" at the end) but instead pointing out that researcher J. Michael Bailey (who trannies fucking despise for writing a major book on autogynephilia, "The Man Who Would be Queen".) has found that a notable percentage of pedos suffer from "erotic-target identity inversion" in which somebody gets aroused by imagining themselves as what they find desirable, vs fantasizing about interaction with a desirable partner. Erotic-target identity inversion is also the root of autogynephilia. The article also points to Jesse's review of Alice Dregler's book Galileo's Middle Finger, which is about various controversies in scientific research, including the tranny witch hunt against Bailey. It's nothing to do with whether pedophilia is a sexual orientation or where it comes from. The issue in question is what to make of non-offending pedophiles (aka people attracted to children who do not act on their attraction and have never done so, aka "virtuous pedophiles"). Whether their attraction is a fetish or sexual orientation or a Satanic curse is irrelevant to this question.

If a man goes to a therapist and says "I am attracted to young children but I really don't want to hurt anybody, what should I do?" then what should that therapist (or other professional) do in response?

"Shoot him" is the easy answer, but it's probably unconstitutional. The state currently doesn't punish people for pre-crimes. You don't have to have any sympathy for Mr. Virtuous Pedophile, or any particular belief about where his pedophilia comes from, to recognize that it's potentially a tricky issue.

Now, personally, I have my doubts "virtuous pedophiles" even exist, and I think that any sympathy towards them is another reflection of Jesse's deep naivety. Another issue: neither Jesse nor Katie have kids, and they don't seem to have any children in their lives they're specifically close to (nieces, nephews, etc) so I don't think either of them experiences that intense emotional disgust + anger response most normal people get when they think about child abuse. "Virtuous pedophiles" is more of an abstract issue to them, just a thought experiment in the world of ideas.

Both of these things are faults, serious faults I'd argue, but nothing Jesse (or Katie) has said or done is in the same universe as "abusing children is okay actually as long as you really love them."

The troons calling Jesse a "pedophile apologist" are deliberately using ambiguity around the word pedophile (which in some limited usages means mere attraction to children, and in more common usage implies acting on that attraction and abusing children) to imply that Jesse has defended child abusers. They're doing this on purpose because they know that even on Bluesky, no one cares about troons that much anymore, so they need to fabricate other shit to build momentum against him. Not sure it's going to work because at some point people might ask why they're not so enraged about all the actual pedos on the platform.

I think pedophilia, like autogynephilia, is at least in part a personality disorder, and like @Mellorine said, it seems to be inherently linked to being deceptive. Anyone claiming to be a virtuous pedophile should be assumed to be lying to get close to kids until proven otherwise. I think taking "virtuous pedophiles" at face value is extremely naive and discounts too much of what we know about how these people act.

I phrased that badly, I don't mean they have no nieces and nephews, just that they don't seem to have close relationships with any particular kids. And it's probably dumb of me to speculate. I just mean that IMO Katie and Jesse both seem to come at any issues involving children from the perspective of people who aren't around children much, and this is sometimes a negative.

He’s not in favor of a blanket ban because he’s worried that blue states will react by enacting even worse laws surrounding this issue, like how a trans kid can run away to California for “GAC” and not be forced to go home. I think he wants banning puberty blockers and surgeries to be a bipartisan issue instead of a culture war issue. In October I would’ve said that was a pipe dream but Dems got destroyed in November and there’s definitely been a vibe shift. That being said, I’m thrilled that the Trump admin may be able to ban these procedures or at least, strongly discourage hospitals from participating.

I don’t know if Jesse counts as a True Trans believer anymore. He mentioned that after taking a deep dive for his book on youth gender medicine, he found that evidence for transitioning adults is severely lacking. He said he regrets what he published back in 2017(?) because back then he thought there was at least some proof that adults can be benefited by transitioning. I don’t think he realized how deep the deception ran in these institutions.

He’s been endlessly respectful to these people and they’re calling him a pedophile and trying to get him killed. I don’t know how he does it, just when I think I can’t hate them more than I do, my TTD-levels rise.
