Of all the styles they could have settled for, why that? It (sort of) works for Rugrats and Duckman because they tried to make them somewhat different. The rest? No excuse.

I used to watch American Dragon back in the day. I have a major thing for dragons. Then the new series came along and they changed the animation team, and Jake's design. I suppose they wanted to make him look more like a lanky teenage dragon and less of a beefcake but I liked the old design more. Maybe it was the jaggedness of the new style that put me off.

I think Stephen Universe's overall design is absolutely terrible and is a major reason I have no interest in the show. Mostly that hideous way they draw everyone's lips.

Stephen Universe is filled to bursting with gender fluidity and songs about determined lesbian love. There is no room for character development, artistic design, or a semblance of rational thought beyond what a Sarah Lawrence major would hallucinate at a drag ball.

It's tragic when a good or even great character design gets mysteriously thrown out the window and replaced with shit.
All of those unique designs and they go with turkey tits...
The concepts kind of remind ne of Surf's Up, it wasn't a memorable or ground breaking movie in any way but each character was unique in design.
