.That's a good goal, because the official "translations" were never translations, they'll never be 1:1 (or close) translations from official sources because localizers have only been interested in twisting literal narratives for their own purposes. My first reality check was when I was revisiting the original Pokemon Red back in 2010ish and read a more direct translation I was given from a friend, this lead me down a rabbit hole that keeps being dug to this day and will forever be dug so long as we have localization. Learning a language, even if it means just understanding the original text of a video game, is a great idea for many situations. It broadens your horizons and you'll be kicking yourself for not doing it sooner.

i get that. learning a foreign language is a good thing for the person no matter what. i have been inspired by the niggas who became fluent in japanese in under 200 days or so who used lite novels to learn the language. i thought about it for months and what cemented the plan was the eiyuden chronicles chud line. we are in the era where shitty localizations have no excuse for being written wrong. people who are familiar with japanese language notice these lolcowizers fucking the script up because (likely) they think they can write better than the original writers. one of my friends who isnt fluent but has some japanese knowlege was playing ff16 with jap voices. he could tell that the english subtitles were forced game of thrones like dialogue clearly different from the japanese voices. theres instances like this in most jap to english translations and i am sick of it.
Shit translations have become more noticeable and japan having japan only games makes people like me learn their shitty language to play their games(Super Robot Wars) or to know the real context behind things because we have been cucked with translations to the point it sometimes changes the whole tone of a scene. is there not Japanese people who speak English and Japanese they can do translations I notice this isn't an issue with Russian and other countries in the Balkans who have video game studios cause most of them speak English as a second language.
