One cannot deny however, that it has (perhaps prematurely) shaken out those who’d otherwise backstab the President over his 2nd term. Always good to know who your enemies are, the better your resources can be allocated in the effort to unseat them.

Technically, once I was unable to fax some government department somewhere some paperwork from the local library for a few days, if that counts. Other than that, no.

Let me explain the debt ceiling to you since it's pretty clear most of you have no idea what is going on.

As of now, there is no debt ceiling.

Let me repeat that for all of those "true conservative" supporters. As of right now, there is no debt ceiling.

The debt ceiling was suspended back in Jun of 2023.

As things stand now, as of Jan 1st, 2025, the debt ceiling will return, and it will be whatever it was when it was suspended plus whatever spending Biden and the dems did since June of 2023. That new debt ceiling is estimated to be hit by June of 2025 if not earlier.

What the CR wanted to do is push the redemption of the debt ceiling back for 2 years.

This would allow massive tax cuts that Trump wants to make. Things like no tax on tips, no tax on social security, no tax on overtime, a 15% tax bracket for companies who built here, and to stop the Trump tax cuts from expiring.

You see, the government idiots consider tax cuts as government spending. So if you do $4 trillion in tax cuts, the government considers that $4 trillion in spending.

The debt ceiling redemption on Jan 1st will make Trump have to figure out how to pass the tax cuts without going over the debt ceiling and triggering a default. Do you get it now?

By not moving the non-existent debt ceiling back two more years, the "true conservatives" just stopped you from getting more of your money returned to you by tax cuts and they kept more money in the government for a bigger gov. In effect, they just voted for the exact opposite of what they tell you they want and don't for a second think they don't know that.

Not that hard to understand. McCarthy removed the debt ceiling so the uniparty could do whatever the fuck they wanted spending wise and now it's due to return next year which will incredibly handicap Trump's ability to do anything budget wise and will force him to give the dems everything they want.

Tax cuts become 10x harder to pass with a debt ceiling then without. If Kamala won this would be extended until 2028 at a minimum.

I'm also sorry that the Democrats are choosing to shut down the government rather than pass a clean bill.

In addition I must express condolances that with Elon controlling X the media will not be able to blame Trump and put pressure on the GOPe / ConInc. to capitulate.

Sounds like Congress might have to do their fucking jobs for once and pass a Budget, not a CR full of pork.

The shutdown is not the issue it's just fodder for low IQ normies to get upset/happy about depending on political leanings. The issue is when it eventually reopens under Trump and he can't pass any tax cuts due to the debt ceiling returning and all of a sudden the uniparty will care about a budget while he is in office and it leads to a much easier midterm win for the dems.

I don’t think this is bad for Trump at all. The omnibus is dead. The loss of the CR isn’t that big of a deal. Even if we lose the TCJA in 2025, the media told us how evil it was when it was passed. They’ll have a hard time blaming Trump for it expiring when he was the one who got it through in the first place.

Best case scenario Congress actually starts doing its job.

That's one reason why I'm confused here. We have the FC opposing the cut down CR, and I thought they were populist and thus a de-porked version would be good? We have the Uniparty trying to get an Omnibus-in-all-but-name and having a fucking conniption fit through their RINO mouthpieces the next day about the cut down CR being a crime against budgets. And now apparently if they do nothing at all instead of it being a shutdown instead all that will happen is Trump will get everything he wants day 1 instead, which is why they really really want to get a CR passed before he gets in to screw him? Except they joined the FC in voting down the de-porked CR... Because they want the pork?

I'm confused.

FC want single item bills/CR which will never happen because Dems will lockstep oppose and they can get enough R to flip with lobbying. Very easy to play them against whatever Trump wants done and Johnson's leadership has flat out been called into question on camera by some of them so he isn't exactly effective at this point.
