So I finished watching the "trial" version of the Beast Games before I begin watching well, the actual series, and for anyone who's not interested in watching it (I don't blame you), here's a TL;DW list of everything that happened in it. The > unskippable beast game ad with money lion portions are just the amount of ads I've gotten in between watching the video. I knew Mr. Beast would probably spam advertisement his own game inbetween his video, so I took my ad blocker off for that.

> 2,000 players compete
> unskippable beast game ad with money lion #1
> hey did you know you're risking everything for five million dollars
> first trial happens, 400 people must pull a 10,000 lb boulder (i doubt it was 10,000 lb)
> there are five different teams (red, yellow, pink, blue, orange)
> red gets out
> unskippable beast game ad with money lion #2
> next trial is 400 cases, 50 of them will eliminate someone while 350 of them will keep someone safe
> each team is separated into individuals
> unskippable beast game ad with money lion #3
> hey did you know you're risking everything for five million dollars
> 250 people eliminated
> unskippable beast game ad with money lion #4
> day has ended, people sleep in sleeping bags (no mention if they even got to eat or something)
> unskippable beast game ad with money lion #5
> next trial, there are 1100 flags; number of flags gradually increase overtime
> flags start at 10, then 50, etc
> people are teaming with each other on who gets the flag
> hey did you know you're risking everything for five million dollars
> hey did you know you're risking everything for five million dollars
> hey did you know you're risking everything for five million dollars
> hey did you know you're risking everything for five million dollars
> slightly wholesome moment at 13:10 when they let an old lady get the flag
> ludwig and chanceler act surprised that people aren't acting like feral primates and showing basic compassion
> unskippable beast game ad with money lion #6
> more people get out
> mr. beast gives karl the mic
> karl ends up saying "YO", which made a lot of people think he said go
> ends up getting 31 people eliminated
> unskippable beast game ad with money lion #7
> mr. beast act surprised at karl's loud hype boy personality (he definitely gave karl the mic intentionally come on now)
> actual beast game ad with money lion (not like the seven other reminders already told me enough, thanks a lot jimmy thanks a lot you're so cool brother)
> 1,100 people now remain
> final trial; mr. beast makes 100 people form into 11 groups
> forced to stand on a large podium, told that if even one person leaves through the red tape, everyone else is also out
> hey did you know you're risking everything for five million dollars
> hey did you know you're risking everything for five million dollars
> hey did you know you're risking everything for five million dollars
> hey did you know you're risking everything for five million dollars

> mr. beast does his usual bribing session
> $5,000 bribe; no one's convinced
> $50,000 bribe; people getting nervous
> $1,000,000 bribe; everyone loses it
> mr beast acts surprised when he saw the many hands go up of people who said they quit their jobs to participate in the games
> random lady jumps for the $50,000 bribe before the timer starts (timer to indicate how long people can decide who will 'betray' the group for the money)
> ends up not getting it because she jumped early; ended up also costing everyone in her team the loss
> most likely will be doxxed
> 1,000 people now remain for the actual games; the "2,000 People Fight For $5,000,000" title was sort of clickbait since it's not actually 2,000 people competing, just a 1,000 in the ACTUAL games whereas 2,000 people competed in the TRIAL games.

Overall, it was... something. The only trial that intrigued me was the "having 400 people pull up a 10,000 lb boulder together". Probably one of the more "unique" things I've seen him do. Everything else was your standard "Safe or Eliminated Briefcases" or "Bribe people with money because Jimmy is totally not aware that these are just ordinary, regular people trying to make it big and taking advantage of their desperation by constantly going > hey did you know you're risking everything for five million dollars a million times like the audience and the competitors already don't get the picture that they're trying to win something that only less than 1% of the world can even dream to have" kind of trials. Nothing actually well, unique or standout-ish. That'll probably be different for the official games, who knows.

I'll continue with the tl;dw recaps when I watch the episodes on Prime Video. There's currently two episodes out right now so I'll check them out soon.

@didelphigina Jesus christ the description of Mr. Beast's show just makes me hate the man more.

I know its normal for game shows to do that, but given Jimmy is a youtuber who has more of a parasocial relationship with his audience, the way he constantly rubs in how poor people are and how desparate they are, really make me want to punch the guy. Like no shit these people are desperate, part of Mr. Beast's entire brand is just how he will give people money, which in hindsight is probably why he has so many subscribers, I guarantee at least 25% of them are people who think subscribing will give them money.

It's a special brand of scummy that really is worse than the other scumbag scammers on Youtube, since most of the time at least they aren't building their brands off being super altruistic and giving money to others.

Mizzy of Fishtank fame gave some interesting insider commentary of her time on Beast Games
  • Mizzy was not allowed to talk about the show until after this video aired.
  • Mizzy is not a MrBeast fan, she thinks he's phony and that anyone could do what he does, he's just rich. She went on the show because an actor friend asked her to contact the casting director and they ended up both getting on.
  • Jimmy sent a video recorded in his car the morning of the first day to everyone involved (>2000 people) telling them to not expect him to say hi to them.
  • Jimmy got snippy with people who said "hi" to him more than once. "I already said hi to you!" etc.
  • The giant pile of money was real and a bunch of people stole from it.
  • The 10,000lb boulder challenge took "way too long" to set up.
  • The whole video is 4 days of shooting condensed.
  • Nobody was allowed to bring anything in, Mizzy snuck in her Zyns. "They took bracelets, necklaces, they took everything."
  • In the boulder challenge, Mizzy was originally assigned to the red team but she could tell it was a bad team so she ran over to the pink team which seemed like the best one. You can see in the closeups the red team had a lot of women and old people on it, and that team did in fact lose the boulder challenge.
  • Everybody had to "fight" for their team colors in the boulder challenge, this was not shown at all in the video, production just threw the vests out and everyone had to run to get them. Mizzy made it sound like they had to scratch and claw for the vests like Black Friday. There were a bunch of MrBeast superfans there and they were the most aggressive.
  • Mizzy estimated the boulder challenge took a total of 15 hours...condensed into 3 minutes on the show. That includes time waiting for everybody to get there, setup, and the actual challenge.
  • "It was the worst production I've ever worked on in my entire life." Mizzy is a quintessential struggling LA actress so she's been in a lot of low-rent substandard indie productions etc. so she has some expertise on this topic.
  • Some of the people in production were "super awesome" but most weren't. She feels production didn't care about any of the contestants.
  • When MrBeast said he was giving everyone $2,000 just for coming out, that was a lie. They got $1,000 at first, and then after the show got in trouble over the issues with production they gave them another $1,000 for their hardships. If you watch the scene where MrBeast says everyone is getting $2,000, it's clear the specific close-up of him saying "$2,000" was shot at a different time, the audio doesn't match the audio of him on the mic right before and it's a close-in shot with no contestants. Another shot of him saying "two thousand dollars" with the crowd is very obviously ADR and doesn't match his lips.
  • That second $1,000 came after they all signed something agreeing to not do a class-action lawsuit.
  • The "that goes for all of you!" line didn't happen at all.
  • The briefcase challenge also took forever to set up and was "draining."
  • Pretty much everything was filmed "at like 3 or 4 in the morning" for hours until the sun came up.
  • "They couldn't show a lot of this shit because people were getting hella injured on this too."
  • The night of the briefcase challenge, MrBeast was super annoyed and the "something diabolical for this final round" where they didn't rearrange the briefcases was just to save time.
  • Sleeping on the floor of the stadium sucked, it was cold, they never turned the lights off, they ran out of water, no showers. This experience may have helped Mizzy survive the Fishtank later.
  • The food was the same small TV dinner every day and oatmeal.
  • MrBeast only came for the challenges, he was gone most of the time.
  • Production was mean whenever anyone asked for food outside of designated food times.
  • The last night Mizzy was there was when articles about the whole fiasco started to come out, and when she asked for food then, production did a complete 180 and took care of her, which she thought was weird (she didn't know why at the time).
  • Mizzy almost told production she was Jewish so she could get kosher food, which was much higher quality than the food given to the gentile contestants. Actual restaurant food.
  • Production told everybody to hold back on the capture the flag challenge so 50+ people weren't eliminated the first round, that's why barely anybody went out at first.
  • Mizzy got eliminated during the capture the flag challenge but her elimination didn't make it to the final cut.
That's the end of my notes as that's the end of Mizzy's experience. Most of it is what we all already knew but maybe there's some nice tidbits in there.

That's just infuriating. Imagine driving or flying all this way, spending days getting ready, missing work for this....then some moron ruins it all for a quick joke no one laughed at.

Sounds familiar.

I disagree. Jimmy did make it clear the horn was the sign to go. The games are supposed to test everything not just athleticism. Karl's mistake was a good test for that.

I'm going to watch this show this weekend and watch Mufasa. I'll tell you which is more painful.
