The truly embarrassing thing is he let them enter default judgements instead of showing up to court himself to fight it.
tl;dr: I was reading up on some guy who made made money suing spams under CAN-SPAM (or more accurately, made money suing them and then selling the debt for 10-50% to collection agencies) and he had another article about how he erased his $10,000 debt and got a $10,000 judgement on top of it because the collection agency fucked up.
He answered his court summons. What happened was they had a list of several dozen names, no one showed up, and when he did they immediately withdrew the case. The guy asked the debt company's lawyer what the hell, and she answered that she was a hired gun getting something like $50 per name to run the cases, and she was due in court in the next county in about an hour. The SOP was to just immediately drop the case on anyone who showed up, and refile/renegotiate later.
(as a conclusion: The debt company sold his debt without ever filing. This created a legal loophole where the company that bought his debt next never did the legal necessities of refiling the case and suing him, but began trying to collect the debt like they had, doing things like calling him after he sent them paperwork that demanded all contact be via US Mail. This violates federal debt collection statutes and was how he was able to sue the debt collection agency for a legitimate debt he owed and forced THEM to settle for wiping his debt off his credit report and $10,000 - since he logged all the illegal contact attempts and it was something like $25,000)
So fuck the plastic jew or w/e. Who gives a fuck if his wife says whatever lies to some stranger at their door. Its monstrously cringe he didn't send some sort of agent to avoid a default judgement.
It isn't a matter of making him infamous or disgraced, it is a matter of laughing at a series of bad decisions that he made. He is famous for clowning on the mistakes of others, he's not above having his own mistakes clowned on. To me, it isn't even a matter of good vs. evil, it is a matter of how pathetic it is to leave debts unsettled for years at a time and go to such measures to try to dodge them. In case anyone missed it, the debts were ultimately settled anyways, so he did not stick it to the financial system or anything like that. Dodging debts, especially debts that small, is pathetic and it deserves to be mocked. It isn't an epic "le based" moment, it is attempting to weasel out of the consequences of one's actions. The absolute swarm of people going "Jim dindu nuffin wrong" are equally embarrassing.
I'mma tl;dr this.
Odds are he negotiated for less than the stated amount. This is really common and if you have tolerance for months to years of dealing with debt collectors enough to outlast them and wait for their "judgement proof" offer which might be 10% of what's owed, you can really clean up.
But its extreme penny scrounging behavior and only possible if you have no traditional assets they can go after, and also if you don't have pretty much any job.
Basically nigger behavior.
