Man, why is everything so shit these days? This isn't nostalgia speaking. I've been watching shows and playing games (specifically Origins) made over a decade ago and finding them unbelievably better than modern slop, complete with actually doing new or politically incorrect shit.
Quite a few reasons.
1. People have aged out. The younger boomers and older gen x people who were making decent shit? If they were successful enough, retired. Otherwise moved onto other things(different industry, doing a purely management role, tard wrangling at their own startups, etc.). This isn't just game devs either. It's writers for video games, TV, movies. Almost anyone worth a shit is 50+ at this point.
2. The next crowd in is the late 20s to early 30s group of fuckups. These are people who have never experienced much of anything negative in their lives, spent their entire youth being lied to about how such a special snowflake they are and being awarded participation trophies by boomers, etc. What the fuck is someone who at best has spent most of their lives with most of the sum of mankind's knowledge at their fingertips, consuming brainrot, supposed to come up with that's interesting? Their idea of a struggle is trying to score oppression points for made up mental illnesses on tumblr and giving themselves the psychiatric version of Munchausen syndrome in the process. They didn't grow up with a cold war looming over their head, having friends or themselves eating government cheese, pondering the unlikely possibility of a draft, actually done a damned thing for any kind of real civil rights or equality, etc.
3. The geriatrics running things at the top(corporate boards, politicians, etc.) were the morons who gave these idiots their participation trophies and special snowflake speeches in the first place, so they aren't going to suddenly turn on them and state that they were lying for the past 30 years. This group of morons is the new voting block and consumer base that keeps these old fucks in power at this point, and the past decade of dumbass consumers proves they were right to do what they did.
4. Now you might think that as the boomers age out and get replaced by the older gen x people and younger boomers, that this situation might flip flop. Fuck no. The writers, programmers, designers, etc. that have retired don't want to jump back into this shit. It's stupid and not worth their time. That leaves room for the morons to fail upwards.
