On r/fatlogic (where I found this) someone also shared the following:
"I know the tea on this case, and it was a blatant nonrefundable deposit scam from day one, but this person's delusional thinking blinded them to the fact.
It was the anaesthetist who said nope, as anyone who values their medical licence would. The surgeon can promise the moon on a stick to get the cash, safe in the knowledge they'll never have to deliver on false promises.
That said, this surgeon is subject to multiple lawsuits, most notably an adult who's now realised that their top surgery at age 14 was wildly illegal. Information readily available with a simple Google search, but this person still went ahead.
There's also drama around the fact this person did a Gofundme for this surgery, suspiciously renovating their bathroom, then throwing a tantrum when donors put two and two together and demanded refunds.
It's suspected they were rejected much earlier in the process, aren't as broken up about it as they claim, and just wanted a new bathroom (allegedly)."
