Creepy Unsolved Mysteries - From unsolved murders to unidentified people to unexplained supernatural events, what are some of the creepiest unsolved mysteries you've ever heard of?

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
You want to know what The Mothman really was? It was a snowy owl that got lost and migrated too far south and group psychosis. A local shot it thinking it was Mothman and the sightings stopped. And no, I'm not going to post a source because I'm too lazy to look up the article I read years ago about this. Cryptids in America are always either bears (sasqautch), owls, or hoaxes.

I love cryptozoology... from a biologist's perspective and from a folklore and historical perspective. I don't believe in yowies or bunyips exactly, but I do believe that known animals can do some really weird shit, some animals do indeed turn up where they shouldn't, that old folk tales of strange animals in areas that had only newly been settled should not be dismissed completely... and most importantly, that the human desire to fuck with one another is the basis for some of the best yarns in the entirety of human history.

That said, any lingering interest I had in the Loch Ness Monster died forever a few years back, when I read a news article stating that the loch system that Ness is part of had been determined to only be something like ten thousand years old. Nessy is some combination of hoax, hallucination, and fuckhuge fish/eels.

Earliest reported account/description of the Loch Ness Monster was something like this:

(Boy you have to filter through a lot of bullshit to get to the actual drawing and description of the encounter)

The nondescript blob shape with no discernable head is similar to other ocean cryptids that ended up being whale or shark carcasses. But I don't believe that's what it is. I think some of the earliest accounts of Nessie, the ones that mention seeing it being on land, are misidentified seals. Apparently it's not that uncommon for seals to be found in the river or occasionally make their way to the loch.

One cryptid I do believe in is the black mat/black carpet. It's supposed to me some kind of ocean creature, possibly a colony-species like a hydrozoan or some kind of large biofilm.
The stories of it being a thousand feet long might be exaggerated, but I've heard stories from divers who've seen things that look like blankets sitting on the seafloor or floating around.

that's stupid
how would a plesiosaur still be alive
it's the GHOST of a plesiosaur, that's how it can appear in all those different lakes
That's stupid

Ghosts are supernatural and not real

Ayyymaos seeding various lakes globally with plesiosaurs is totally natural
Because it was put there by aliens.
See? This guy Knows
