We will see. Elon is a big asset to Trump due to owning Twitter and being a major donor. If they have a lovers quarrel it will be very public and very petty as Elon puts it all on blast on his website which could damage the MAGA movement and make Trump and his team look weak and divided. Vivek & Musk are essentially advisors and propagandists* for the president. Musk essentially is in the place he was 10 years ago when he was regularly hanging out with Obama and getting generous contracts. From my perspective Musk flipped because he got mad when Biden started favoring the rival EV makers. Elon wants that pie to himself, I think he’s already got it unless something radically has changed I think all EVs are using Tesla patented charging so I’m pretty sure no matter what US EV you buy you’re supporting Musk. Again I’d have to do homework again to be sure but I think all EVs Charging Stations will be Tesla Charging by the end of the decade he is going to have an insane control over infrastructure especially if EVs can ultimately compete with Gas.

I actually agree with critics I don’t trust Vivek I think he’s a pure opportunist. Kissinger had a point when he told Nixon they’re masters of flattery.

At the end of the day I do think Trump has handled his nominations well, if Elon and Vivek keep being stupid Trump will just say “They’re brilliant guys but they don’t represent me.” I stated it earlier I think H1-B’s should be revamped but what I want is that corporations should have to take more risk. If there is a legendary engineer in Calcutta yeah I’ll welcome him to America. But any H1-B should cost the business in question more money than hiring actual citizens.

In that thread he argued immigration to America (and any European country) should be treated like an NFL draft, we should only accept the best and brightest. I fully agree with that. If they want to sponsor their cousins they should have to pay reasonable fees to discourage leaching. America’s success as a “nation of immigrants” is because immigrants had to succeed to survive.

And I’m well aware that Indians (and Chinese which doesn’t get talked about but it should) straight up bullshit their way to desirable jobs. I should find my old post where I talked about how my friend in the tech industry has to deal with their shenanigans. I think Corporate America needs to do a better job vetting people. Like how a lawyer has to pass a bar exam an engineer should have to do the same thing. We already have that for the finance industry a stock broker has to pass a “Series 7” or some equivalent.

this assumes an equal footing that doesn't exist. It's not that it's either an American making 80k or an Indian making 80k with everything else being equal. The Indian goes to a shitty school like Durgasoft, pays someone to take the hard tests at the shitty school, uses his connections with his cousin in Silicon valley to get a H1B visa, and then is hired for way less than market value as a indentured servant for a company that is guaranteed that he will never leave.

Would you rather hire an American for 80k or a slave that can do the work of a poorly educated American for 60k but can't leave?
