If you have years of experience in software, you probably have already realized it's a feast-or-famine existence. Stuff was bad in 2000, stuff was bad in 2008, and stuff is bad in 2023/2024.

You prepare for it and keep your resume warm because they always come crawling back. For the kids though, this is career-ruining. If you have 5-10 years of real experience and you have to sit out for a couple of years, you can get back on the horse when the market improves without much trouble. If you have 0 years of experience and graduate into a tech downturn, you're likely never going to get into the industry at all and your education has gone to waste.

Look at Spoony. Sure he has other problems and a bad personality but he graduated into a bad tech market and he's never been able to use his degree.


The CS subreddits are mostly Indians and other assorted foreigners. Native-born students don't hang out on reddit. Their crocodile tears are because they leveraged their entire mudhut village to get into the US and now their job offers are being rescinded.

I know all of this, I don't need it explained to me. Luckily I personally don't have to worry about jobs because my resume looks good and I have been very lucky, tbh. And yes, the tech zoomers are fucked atm. That still doesn't change the fact that there are people out there with just as good resumes as mine, with just as many years of experience, being laid off and looking for jobs. My point was that the "we need to import jeets into the country because we lack talent" is a bad cover story to use in year 2 of tech layoffs.

I'm not in tech but my husband is (no - homo). He just survived another round of layoffs a couple months ago and for the past decade it's layoff's every year or 2 yrs. Luckily this last round his job got rid of a bunch of jeets, domestically and overseas.

This was pointed out numerous times to Elon, but as others have stated he ignored them and punished them by taking away their verification.

We lived in tech heavy area and saw first hand the devastation importing hoards of South Asians do to area.

yeah, and the past 2 years it's more like layoffs every few months. Some bigger, some smaller. All with the goal to pump the stocks up and all under the excuse of "we overhired during Covid, when money was free". It's rough out there, but I am glad to hear the layoffs are hitting the jeets too. Hope your husband manages to dodge future layoffs.

Your mistake is thinking that Elon is honest and that he's simply not thinking about the cognitive dissonance inherent in his position that we need to layoff American tech workers because of overcapacity while simultaneously importing thirdies because we don't have enough capacity. This is incorrect. He knows that the facts don't gel with his narrative but he was hoping his dead forum and army of jeet capos would be enough to astroturf his position into mainstream approval. As has been pointed out in response to Vivek's bullshitting, the dirty little secret of most self-professed "nerds" (and, by extension, affluent East Asian and jeet immigrants who LARP as doctors and engineers) is that they really aren't particularly knowledgeable or skilled compared to a middle-of-the-road white American or Englishman or Canadian. Remember, no matter what they say, Pajeets are in no way academically superior to others. The one place they will ever excel is certain STEM subjects, but only because they spend their life rote learning the material for various exams. A Pajeet will rarely ever actually understand a concept.

You’ll learn this if you get interviewed by a Jeet. I know because I worked in a field that doesn’t have many Jeets because they don’t teach it at diploma mills like IIT. So when one does get into a manager role they have to interview good ol boys instead of picking random H1Bs. He kept quizzing me on minutiae that I didn’t know because I didn’t need to know it.
