I just get frustrated by people who still stereotype China as if it was still the 1950's or even the 1970's. China is about equal to or have surpassed the US in engineering and tech. They own the supply chain, production and possess endless raw materials. Unlike the West the population is generally happy and content with their status quo. Before long they'll be running circles around us - they kinda already are right now.

They have pretty tremendous industrial output, just garbage quality assurance. Chinese anything is just good enough to cross the margins. As for tech, I suppose they match the US, as they have pretty much stolen anything we put together.

Though I do want to point out that the China you're speaking of is not the same under Xi. He's got more of a Mao-lite model going on and the CCP is sticking its fingers into everything. I don't actually see China doing great in the next 20 years, but we'll see. I think everybody is in for hard times.
