Can confirm this. It was a great combo of slow, boring, vague and higly expository despite having NO FUCKING STORY.It's actually a shame DREAM TV is lost. Not because it was good, quite the opposite. It was garbage. Genuinely one of the most boring things you could read.
Some pages might be backed up in his telegram but more than likely it's lost now.
As can be expected, the pedomalding is at its height, as this announcement is under an hour old. Quite a few screencaps, so they'll be going under the cut. It's with a heavy heart that today, we're unfortunately announcing the closure of Aethy. Due to the recent political climate of the USA, it's no longer safe to keep the website running. With attacks increasing on the queer community and our allies, we have to prioritize our own safety and the safety of our users.
We have been in discussion about what to do since the latest election results. The incoming president has made it clear that he wishes to see spaces like our's attacked and shutdown. Unfortunately, we have decided that it's best to simply close the site down. We discussed the prospect of transferring the site to a different owner but we don't want our user's data to be open to attack now or in the future.
Aethy will stay up for 30 days. In that time, you'll be able to transfer your account to another fediverse host. Registrations will be closed but the site will continue to function as normal in that time.
We'd like to thank everyone for the past wonderful two yearsOur community was one of the most special places on the internet and we will always be grateful for you all.![]()
The fearmongering Trump induces in pervert trannies is one of the few silver linings I find in another Trump administration; truly, the next four years of milk shall ever flow. (I won't turn this into a politisperg, of course - we're all united together on Kiwi Farms to laugh at people.)Come the fuck on. Orange Hitler does not give a shit about the Fediverse.
Alright, I've taken a breath and I want to talk about what's been going on from the hosting end of Aethy.
Aethy has been fighting closure for months. We've had multiple fights with a ton of our service providers. People may remember the time Aethy was closed for a week because Wasabi dropped us with no notice.
Aethy consistently receives threats and has to jump providers in order to survive. If you want to see an example, trying accessing Aethy from an Irish IP Address. We had to block an entire country because they kept filing false CSAM reports with our service provider. For France, we have to maintain an entirely separate blocklist for content they deem unacceptable. They even tried to get us to censor all the lalafells at one point until we pushed back on it.
In a lot of cases, we can't even address the issue before the provider starts threatening us. And jumping providers takes a lot of time and money.
I think there's this idea that when you host a site, you can do whatever you want. It's not true. We're beholden to the people who handle our domain name, the people who handle our server, block hosting, CDN, etc. Then there's people who think it's just a matter of finding the right provider.
The issue is that providers intentionally write their terms of service in order to be as vague as possible. They write them so they can terminate you at any time for any reason. They're not going to say "we don't allow kink". They're gonna say "we don't allow 'harmful material'". If you ask them upfront, they're gonna give you a wishy washy answer on what's allowed. You're not gonna know what's allowed until someone throws a fit about it and reports you to the service provider.
And this is also not mentioning the financial aspect. We've been banned by every payment provider besides for Fanbox. This is why you can only support Aethy in JPN. There's no other way to accept payment.
This week, we got threatened by our service provider that handles the backend. They told us we had to remove content from our site that was "against their AUP". Mind you, this is a service provider that said they were fine hosting adult content. When pressed on what was allowed, I asked them point blank if BDSM between consenting adults was allowed.
They told me that since it was violent, it would be subject to removal. BDSM is too violent for them now.
This is the state of the internet right now. This has been ongoing for the entire duration of the site. But the past few months has been worse. As people brace for a Trump presidency, they're dropping adult content left and right. It sucks.
This isn't the only thing that led to Aethy's closure but this gives you a taste of what's going on from the technical end.
Makes you wonder what exactly he means about "other things (I) can't discuss"?It's so frustrating that people are telling us that we're giving up without fighting. We've been fighting for the entire duration of this website.
"Why didn't you all say this in the News post?"
We're trying to let people get their data off the website. Calling out the service providers is a great way to have that not be allowed to happen.
"Why is Baraag still going?"
I hope Satori the best! But my personal financial situation has been terrible for months now. The truth is, Aethy doesn't have enough money to weather all these issues anymore.
This on top of other things I can't discuss has led to it just not being feasible to keep Aethy going. It all just feels like shit after working so hard to keep this site going.
Very nice news to see that scumhole shutting down. Sad that there is always "substitutes".While one pillar of the Pediverse falls, they flee to another: Baraag. However, the culture shock for them will be intense, as Baraag doesn't promote the same cuddly bullshit Aethy does (requiring CWs on everything and being nice to everyone who is psychotic enough to think they are married to fictional people). Some are also fleeing to Bluesky, and if you haven't been reading the Bluesky thread, you may want to start now as the floodgates open...
