There's a lot of mumbo jumbo associated with it but the basic idea is that all the current problems of today are solvable with more technology. And the problems created by technology are solvable by... more technology.

A lot of it is transhumanist/futurist magical thinking based on the belief that technological progress is innately exponential (it isn't, only computing has really been like that).

To that end, the e/acc crowd seeks to unironically turn humanity into bug men if it means we'll pour more resources into technological development, because once we "finally go exponential this time bro trust plan fr fr" all human problems will cease to exist and we'll live in paradise. And coincidentally the e/acc 130+ boy genius tech guys will be the presumptive kings of that paradise.

This space is pretty large and diverse and has a lot of big characters rolling around, but it has an outsized influence in SV (and now Austin as well) tech spaces. You rarely see it outside of the VC tech world because sane investors look at magical computer beliefs and immediately realize it's culty nonsense.

They're a very wide swath of people but you are correct on the AI part. They come from the lesswrong futurist sphere of the internet and generally you can assume all of them believe in an imminent AI singularity.

This is also why they were the biggest cheerleaders for AI at the start of the boom and will even outright lie about what LLMs can do now ("TRUST ME GUYS LLMS ARE TOTALLY REASONING LOOK AT THESE LLMS TAKING <insert standardized test here>"). For them it doesn't matter if they're dishonest - driving hype cycles to drum up as much investment as possible into AI is an absolute good from their POV because even if pleb investors are deceived, those pleb investors are technically being brought closer to the singularity so everything is okay.

I'd encourage anyone still curious to look into Roko's basilisk and the accompanying mass hysteria it induced. It's probably the best distillation of how these guys think and their overall ideology. The basilisk itself is kind of gauche by current postrat standards but the paradigm it exists in is still very much relevant to them.
