Still trying to figure out who the meme insulted. Only group(s) that come to mind are older women who's egg cartons are running rather low, and the terminally offended at everything (so same group), and neither of them really watch anime, let alone vtubing.

Corporate Vtubing is going the way of shit like Machinima did on YouTube back in the day, unless your Hololive your not going to survive whats coming, I would say Indie Vtubing is most likely the future

I follow a few vtubers who have formed a community of sorts, collabing, raiding, concerts etc. Every one supporting the other. Even Nyanna has a concert coming up, Obake Pam had one recently. You don't need a middle manager, and if you do you want one to make it easier, you can hire one of your choosing, versus having one being forced on you by a company.
Indie is probably the future, just like games. You may not get the most amazing thing, but you are going to get a geniune product made by people who love the genre, and put their hearts into it.

Hololive and Nijisanji combined are still 40%+ of all vtuber watch time. Corporations will always be relevant so long as Japan is the primary market. Vtubing in the West may change somewhat but all the companies that died this year were basically irrelevant as far as the percentage of the total industry that they captured.

Certainly a plurality though. One of the two (probably Niji) will have the plurality industry-wide, and corpo will definitely be the majority, all totaled.

true indie vtubing is a perpetual mean girl's cavalcade of rumors and big indies are just standard corporate partnerships with a dash of vtubing, it may sound like semantics but indie vtubing at the big leagues doesnt seem as truly non corporate as they want to present as

Indie VTubing is just a Twitch streamer with a little cutesy computer puppet they talk through. They have the same kind of fanbase, they do most of the same content, take the same kind of sponsorships and whatnot. Honestly I am surprised that most of them are as popular as they are, and nowadays this kind of thing is even going for Hololive, they've let some of that Twitch-like culture slide by with their talents and the popular Twitch ones have done song stuff, made up a bit of lore, etc etc. VTubers have never been a thing I personally enjoyed because me and parasocialness/idol culture don't go together, but it's even less now that they've pretty much completely merged with the global internetism meta.
I wish there could be a company that had their talents full tilt into the lore of characters and tailored personalities around that. Hololive is the most interesting to me of the corpos because of that lore even though it's basically just decorations with how it's used nowadays. With the right people I think it could honestly work but I don't know easy it would be to get those people and that right balance of how the streams themselves would be themed and yadda yadda...

40% is less than half, but it's also only Holo and Niji. There are other agencies that are surviving and doing well that will add on to that 40%.

Nowadays? It's always been that for Holo. The character setting kayfabe simply serves as a springboard for other creations (fanworks, merch etc) as well as a convenient filler for keeping Talent anonymity (if there's some aspect of themselves they don't want to put out there or want to obfuscate they can paint over it with their "lore" brush.)

I started playing a game recently which I call lewdtuber roulette. The rules are simple find a vtuber and see if they have a paywalled content. Normal pay walled content is one point and erotic content is two points.
I've lost count of the amount of points I've gotten.
