New Orleans: Multiple people dead on Bourbon Street as 'car ploughs through crowd'​

Reports suggested a vehicle had driven through a crowd on New Orleans' extremely popular Bourbon Street, killing multiple people.​

Multiple people have allegedly been killed after a vehicle ploughed through a crowd of revellers on New Orleans' famous Bourbon Street in the US, according to local media and eyewitnesses.

New Orleans Police Department said that a lorry may have run down the group on the street, which is in the Louisiana city's French Quarter.

Witnesses speaking to CBS News claimed that a vehicle crashed into a crowd at high speed, and then the driver got out and started firing a weapon, with police returning fire.

It was unknown how many people have been killed or injured, but unconfirmed reports on social media claimed it is a "mass casualty" incident.

The incident allegedly occurred around 3.15am local time at the intersection of Bourbon Street and Iberville.

In a post on X, a journalist at local news outlet WGNO-TV wrote: "NOPD source states that as many as 10 fatalities after driver in pickup truck plowed into crowd on Bourbon Street.

"Multiple more injuries. Mayor and police chief on scene," he added, though this has not yet been confirmed.

So far conflicting info, Mayor said "terrorist attack" and clearly intentional, FBI lead said "not a terrorist attack".

At the press conference just now she announced it was definitely a terrorist attack and then the FBI lady quickly said it wasn't. That's going to be big news. I would've gained some respect for the Mayor if she would've just spoke up and said "Excuse me, this is a terrorist attack. People have eyes. I don't know why the feds want to keep it a secret from you. There's a damn ISIS flag on the back of that truck!"

that's not the isis flag, that's just the text of the shahada ("no god but allah, muhammed is his messenger")-- a variety of jihadist groups use that as a banner. the isis flag is the one with the big white circle that's in my earlier post you butthurtedly negrated

i think there's a lot more noise than info coming out of new orleans right now but if what wdsu said is true-- that the truck had been hanging out, it aroused suspicion and a cop asked the driver what he was doing, which then prompted the driver to go on his peace drive, it would explain the flag being still bundled instead of unfurled.

so maybe this guy had planned to do his thing earlier and didn't work up the nerve, OR he was planning on waiting a little longer to better target events around the sugar bowl (american football game taking place in new orleans today). rampaging at 3-something a.m. is definitely not maximizing your kill count
