I think the judge just has to do something in this instance. Greer said he had witnesses, didn't do what he was supposed to, insisted that he was justified when the judge told him he wasn't, and then directly told his witnesses to not cooperate with the defense while calling Hardin a "crazy man". Like before I think Greer was always gonna get leeway since there wasn't a schedule and at that point in the case the judge had to treat everything he was saying as true initially but this is him directly going against the court.
Judge is on a death march towards a courtroom, and if the rest of this docket didn't turn him against Russ I don't think this will. I bet the worst he'll do is a sanction in the exact amount of that appeal cost award, to neatly cancel everything out to zero.
For all the self-inflicted misery Russ blames others for, he is broke, homeless, and living out of his rented car. The court can't reasonably slap him with the thousands of dollars of sanctions he rightly deserves.
