I’m in the middle of building a retro gaming system and I’m the planning stages of putting together a media server. I’ve already learned a shitload; mostly command-line stuff because the gaming PC has Garuda and I still wanted to make sure that all my network configs matched my other systems, but I’ve read up on some related data archival methodology so the games will play as best they can and so I can cram as many roms as I can into a 1TB, and the server will be my first time assembling anything slightly resembling a PC.

It’s been long and frustrating, since these are weekday evening projects. Often I’ll do enough research and troubleshooting that I will just work out a solution to get things working and then I’ll need to stop for the night, and that’s if I’m lucky. Scraping Reddit threads can get really tiresome when you’re getting the same error for two hours. And I’m old as well as stupid so it’s rough on my eyes and my focus. It’s not always “fun”.

But you know what is? Having eureka moments 10 minutes after waking up to feed my cats, throwing open my project laptop and testing something and realizing Holy Fuck, I understand this, I figured it out. I applied new knowledge about my tools and fixed it, it works now. I did that. Yeah, I didn’t make the tools and I didn’t pioneer a new technique, but every Joe Schmoe in the 50s working on his car in his driveway likely didn’t either, but when they were done and they started the engine and it operated right, I gotta imagine they had a similar feeling to what I get. Pride. Deserved Pride. Look ye, at what I have made.

And Phil will never know that, because Phil gave up on his life 15 years ago. He might as well be dead already. Ten minutes of listening to people stupid enough to send him money trying to walk him through anything and he folds like paper. Shit like this is why detractors think his (s)mother babied him so much - he can’t do anything unless a magical foolproof list of steps manifests itself, reads itself to him, and constantly tells him what a good boy he is every time he does it right.

He is so pathetic. He is not a human being.

ETA:
Phil was always going to rage quit modding. You've gotta follow instructions exactly each step of the way and his absolute refusal to do that guaranteed he'd never get any working. Even if he did everything by the letter some times mods are just finicky and refuse to work despite doing everything correct.
Phil wouldn’t even be able to get FOMM running. Not actually doing anything, I mean he could not download, install and then run the program. Not if you put a gun to his head.

Funny thing is Dark Souls isn't even that hard to mod. Imagine if he tried it with Dragon Age (especially DAO and DAI are bitches to mod). Or if he tried to give NieR automata a new look. Too bad he will never mod Streetfighter 6, he could give Zangief a nude skin and he would be salivating at the snout.

Imagine spending loads of money on superficial shit centered around a job requiring you to know something about computers and fumble it because you're a fuckin fraud who has everything spoonfed to you that you barely know how to unzip a file or figure out your own OBS settings. The thing that you met your wife in DMs about.

I loved when someone said "Make sure you make a back up of your game files in case you messed it up."

His reply? "hOw Do I dO tHaT?"
He doesn't know how to create a copy of a folder. Maybe he does, but his kneejerk response was to beg for help.

Learned Helplessness.

Phil makes Jayde look like an active and vital member of society.

DAO was my first modding attempt - eventually I’d call it my first modding experience but this was after when Nexusmods became a reliable repository and community but before Vortex was viable to work as a mod manager for the game, so that was hours and hours of spinning wheels, realizing I was doing things completely ass-backward, restoring files and beginning again. But goddammit I was going to get Leliana in that phoenix armor she had in the trailer.

Still turned me off the game for a while after I finished that playthrough.

Maybe we can convince Phil to try and modify his own life, and we’ll get lucky and he’ll fuck up so bad he unmakes himself. Like a really retarded Transcendental One.

I'm behind like 30 pages again but that setup is fucking awful and it's actually appalling how much money he has wasted on 'upgrading' his setup only for it to look like something a 14-year-old dreams of. The RBG lights would probably give him a seizure if he was epileptic, the lighting is super fucked up now (Remember how much he jerked himself off over the ring light), his use of space is such a fucking mess.

Guy is allergic to the concept of saving money. One of the recent Ask the Kings ALT was watching, DSP literally told a story about his parents asking him why he isn't saving his money when he was living with him. Phil saw his parents being concerned about him wasting all his money on arcades and whatever else the fuck he was buying in his late teens/early 20s as them harassing him and getting into business that isn't their concern.

Like what a genuinely pathetic piece of shit do you have to be not to understand that is your parents looking out for you. They were fucking enablers and they paid off his college debts, but holy fuck man, Phil is just irredeemably both retarded and a narc asshole at the same time.

In case anyone here somehow believes modding is the most herculean task in the world, it isnt.
Modding has never been easier(with few exceptions) and it most involves going to something like nexusmod, picking a mod and download it. Usually it has dependencies needed to run said mod which you can download there also. I recommend anyone wanting to get mods to get a mod manager since it just downloads the mods and anything necessary to run it along with it and you can have said mods active or inactive.

I cant imagine dsp having to do things like create a folder in the game files and adding stuff to make the game run or fix some dumb bug, his mind would break.

With stuff like modpacks and wabbajack, kids these days will never know the struggles of old Elder Scrolls and Fallout modding. Shit used to take literal hours and you had to troubleshoot all of it yourself if stuff didn't work together. Now you can do it in a few clicks.

I would love to see DSP try to work his way through a mod list of 100 or so mods manually. The heat death of the universe would happen before he got the game working.

Before DSP went crazy with the lights and mic stands... he had a working facecam and audio.
Few thousand dollars later he has this amateur style ai green screen, which looks ridiculous at times and audio that sometimes cuts out. Money well spent.
I hate to use poop analogies because DSP has ruined it with his sense of humor that even using a poop analogy once in awhile puts cringe into my soul, but here I go.

He tries to always retroactively flush down his shit turd of a personality and channel to start a new. No drama this time, always positive this time guys etc etc.
But the turd never gets flushed. Instead it comes right back up in pieces. Poopy particles of his worst traits all over the toilet water because he simply cannot flush them down the toilet.

So now we got a murky toilet poopy water but this time guys, its different. That toilet bowl is now a studio. His shit has always had bass if you haven't noticed, and this time there's RGB lights around the toilet bowl rim.

It's really bedazzling at first, but then issues pop up where the fireworks show he has going on ends and you just see what a mess it really is.

We didn't even get to the smell either. He's way too used to the smell.

This guy lacks any sense of adventure. When i was a kid i loved messing with game folders, changing shit and experimenting. Like trying to swap a game soundtrack by adding different music into the music folder, then tricking the game into playing my custom music by renaming my custom music and copying the name of the real music tracks. Which surprisingly sometimes worked lol.

They say all man have creativity in them. Not this guy, maybe he's lacking in testosterone lol.

Also nowadays most games have a dedicated mods folder in case you need to tinker with original game files since they will be required for games with online play that don't allow you to go online if the original files are modified.

Most games are:
1. Boot the vanilla game first you fucking retard, otherwise how do you know if the game was working beforehand?
2. Create a folder or drop the required file that reads modified files
3. Dump the mods into the dedicated mods folder or download the game's dedicated modloader that will even download the mods for you because you're too dumb to see the "readme.txt"

That's it. Some games MAY require a tool to inject files into a game's package files, but the process is always the same since all modding does is load a new file instead of another. The only times you run into any issues is when the game has different versions/updates and the modders don't update (in which case the mod itself will tell you the version it's for), or when you're installing a thousand mods and they conflict with each other (visuals replace the same file or scripts have the same activation key), in which case you can tell because the files are the same or even the modloader tells you they're incompatible.

Also, a nice tip for anyone who uses mod folders and has to switch between vanilla/modded often:
just get an app to change files metadata and switch the original files to a very old date and keep the mods at a more recent one, then sort by creation order and you can easily move shit without having to memorize which files are which. I've done this with GTA V since I have like 8 different mod folders (VR, addon maps, graphics mods, gameplay mods, testing mods) and it's very useful if you want to switch without worrying about fucking things up.

Yeah. As autistic as it sounds, modding GTA San Andreas back in the day was wild because you learned about all the components that make the games work and even realize you can make your own. Phil's lack of curiosity defies human nature. No human being should be capable of having this little sense of discovery.

I dont want to armchair too much but he's just a very insecure dude who is afraid of failure. Keep in mind he thinks he's constantly being watched with a magnifying glass on him that any tiny mess up will make him feel incredibly inferior and stupid.(because he is and a fraud).

I was watching him play Marvel Rivals one day and he just spawned in, used someone's ability to traverse quickly and ran into a wall. He then had to make a stink about that tiny mess up even if it only required a .5 second course correction. That stuck out to me because I wouldn't have cared or noticed if he didn't draw attention to it.

Imagine your whole 16 year legacy is tied to something as this and just fumbling it when your boss decides to finally loom over your shoulder for once to see how you conduct business. Imagine the pressure of boasting about how successful you are and then having the actual skills put into question and fucking that up.

Rambling today but it all comes down to Phils lack of creativity because he cannot express himself freely enough to actually go off the beaten path and actually do things. This man is so afraid of looking stupid that he has to play by the book, that he wrote, and never changing it because he cannot do things on the fly.

I remember doing this for Heroes of Might and Magic 3, I saw that the main folder of the game had a folder called Music and when I saw that they were all mp3 files I just renamed some tracks I wanted to use and put them in the folder. I was surprised when I booted up the game and heard that it worked.

It all comes back to Phil being a narcissist. Doesn’t want to experiment because it’ll show he’s retarded because he’ll fuck it up, which will have DAH TROLLS laughing at him (along with everyone else). Doesn’t want to go anywhere he’s never been because he knows fuck-all and wouldn’t be the font of all knowledge. Doesn‘t want to take risks because he’ll end up looking stupid(er).

It‘s a hell of his own making.

I see a lot of stuff about how cooked the younger generations are now in terms of critical thinking and the ability to use basic functions of a computer and yesterdays stream of phil attempting to install mods and asking shit like how to make a back up of a folder gave me the same vibes you hear of the younger generation, except he is in the age group that should be one of the most savy in terms of technology. I'm really bad at computer shit in a lot of ways that I shouldn't be but man watching this dude fail like hes a fucking 80 year old is legit wild. It's insane that he tries to pretend like he was once building computers, you don't go from building computers to not being able to install basic mods lmao
