"Doxing" in 2025

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
What's the noun then? Because all those are verbs. How do you ask for someone's "dox"? Saying "Does anyone have this guy's phonebook/sunshine/unmask" doesnt' really flow.
Not to shill my own idea too hard, but that's why I suggest dossier, since it's a noun and can also be comfortably used as a verb, as in, "getting the dossier".

"What's the dossier on this guy?"
"The new doss on BMJ is..."
"Putting together a dossier on..."

I don't think that changing the word that we use for doxing will do much, if at all, to change the perception of Kiwifarms amongst normies. We shouldn't attempt to appease those who refused to dig deeper into what Kiwifarms is and instead only rely on MSM for their perception of it. In fact, leaning into the whole "KIWIFARMS IS LITERALLY A TRANNY KILLER HARRASSMENT FACTORY" angle may be better for comedic purposes.

I'm partial to "phonebooking", but it might be too violent for some people and might conjure up visions of us making plans to beat lolcows with phonebooks. Unmasking and exposing might be better, catch-all terms.
You've got to make it overly complex. You skiptrace to get the dossier and then you null the cow when you post it to the site.

I think Null is trying to set up a foundation, he wants slightly better branding.

Exactly, they'll just lie and play language games.
Depending on what term is used like "deanon" or even it's more simplified dean. It could prove to be more difficult. If they're going to play language games, play another language game in return in order to contort them into pretzels trying to outwit us. A more inconspicuous term could be used in order for them to sound like they're insane. (Dean for example could mean a Dean of a College, a guy named Dean, a Catholic Priest, etc. Or harvest which I also suggested has many uses as a word of it's own. To gather crops, ore, etc.)

What you do in response is to fuck with their heads and make normal people believe they're insane. Maybe it will work this time, maybe it won't. Think of Pre-2018 /pol/ and how strong their trolling game was in response to journos. For fucks sakes, the autists on the board managed to psyop so called experts into thinking that milk and a hand gesture were hate symbols. In spite of what political ideology someone believes, that's really funny. If you're able to make people and especially journos come off like paranoid schizophrenics, that's hysterical.

That's why I support rebranding doxxing as "redditing".
That was a push on one of the chans a long time ago. Replace any 'offensive' words with brand names. Like "The google got shot by the cops while stealing fried chicken". Makes it much harder to ban on platforms and creates a negative association.

Another thought is overly-technical phrasing, which screws with academic/business writing. For example, "online identity discovery" or similar wording is used in papers to avoid the negative assocations with the evil doxxxxxxing.

Why not use a brand rather than a descriptive word? I would love to see journos attempt to dance around this.

23andme had a massive breach for example, and what they do is pretty relevant to the topic.

But the sky is the limit, it could be Bud light or whatever else. It would really funny for them to be added in the ADL registry.

Infodump sounds nice and accurate, acknowledges the work put in to finding it but dumping is a neutral act.

This is almost the 3rd option that's been suggested already of simply avoiding dox with no replacement but what about info?
I found their info.
I have their info.
I'm finding their info.

It's neutral, isn't a homophone for dox, isn't special lingo to the forum, and people can still sprinkle in things like "opsec accident" when appropriate.

Why not make the word filter automatically rename doxxing to the chosen replacement? Then, no one can bitch, and we solve the problem.
Because covering something up makes you look guilty regardless and that's getting dangerously close to editorializing which would remove the forums 230 protections. Yes other websites do far more editorializing without problems and no the world isn't fair.

I'm not going to force any specific transfer, so you can pick whichever term you'd like and feels works best. Language is malleable and getting people to change at all is going to be hard enough.
Given that so many users seemingly can't figure out simple stuff like how to thumbnail or archive, asking all Farmers to modify their language to eliminate the D-word is going to be nigh on impossible.

I'd seriously consider adding a word filter for "dox" and "doxing" (both correct and incorrect spellings); preferably "unmask" and "unmasking" respectively. I like the idea of LFJ's favourite word being twisted against him.

That being said, "sunshining" has a nice ring to it.

You don't need someone's address publicly displayed to laugh at their behavior.
While I generally agree and don't care to take a strong stance either way, I'll say that the culture of permissiveness about posting PII has increased my opsec. Null's request to avoid words with illegal connotations is sensible regardless of the fact that most info here comes from legal public sources like Radaris.

I want to help Dear Feeder and say I got a solution, but I don't.
There's probably a software solution to streamline the management of PII and make it obvious to lurkers that inciting harassment is a bannable offense. KF is an interesting place: part wiki, forum, media gallery, and PII repository. I think the conventional bulletin board format is limiting.

Remember when one of your tards
Now that doesn't sound very Kiwi-like.
Are you upset you've got a thread?
Upset you were unmasked?
Haha, cope trannyfag.

I suggest we replace dox with bin (ie. doxbin).
"Anyone got his bin? Yeah I binned him last week, didn't you see?"
Short and snappy.
