A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

A long list of reasons. One that often goes overlooked is that the longer they delay the harder it is to prove anything. Perpetrators die or become harder to find, ditto for victims, officials involved retire and fuck off, records end up disposed of etc.

Honestly you could write thousands of words about the topic but the long and short is that it's easier for them not to give a shit than it is to do anything. They're also almost all complicit in one way or another with the ruination of the country in manners not relating to this sort of thing but that have ties to stuff that enables this such as being in the pockets of oligarchs, NGOs, special interest groups and so on. Some of whom would inevitably have the finger pointed at them by a properly done investigation which then widens into the question of where else this lot influence governmental policy.

The sad truth is there's unlikely to be a riot. If tomorrow a report came out that showed undeniable proof that Kier Stamer personally decided to let children get raped, by people targeting them because of their ethnicity, and did so because he believed it was better for his personal ambitions there would not be a riot because at this point that is essentially the story already. Sort of like how there is not a riot in American over the current presidential party specifically wielding the law as a cudgel against their foes while pardoning their own criminals of unspecified crimes.

I think this, in addition to a possible sobering reality that the problem is actually far worse and far more widespread than even the Rotherham and associated "leaks" have indicated. I mean like official confirmation through documentation that authorities in entire parts of the country are little more than fronts for Paki gangs of extremists and child rapists. I don't know if it would lead to a riot either, but I think it would mean a lot of unrest and a re-evaluation of the current ruling system which has been able to ping-pong this issue for decades.

The NHS is a money pit.
When you've seen shit like: paracetamol for £3.33 when in Tesco it's 50p, office chairs costing >£1k for a shitty thing you could get in Argos for £100, disposable curtains around beds costing £10 each when they could be found for a tenth of the price... you get VERY jaded.

Procurement is a massive problem. The NHS bigwigs give the contracts to their cronies who sell their products at a massive markup, meaning our marvellous NHS is paying £2k for a desk worth £400 max. We saw the worst of this during Covid.
All the "consultants" (not medical) need to be axed because they're just finding more ways to spend money. The locum budget a massive drain. Staff are realising that they make a hell of a lot more working locum than full time, so many are doing that instead.

Much more needs to be invested in social care for the elderly to alleviate bed blocking. GP facilities need to be expanded to cope with the growing population who can't see a doctor. Due to this they go to A&E and cause bottlenecks, leading to >12hr waiting times.

All the people who screech about the NHS being underfunded don't see that you can throw billions at it but it wont improve because resources are massively mismanaged.

It's a dumb argument to make as well. The argument is "We have guns Britain does not and that's why they have this issue" when America has just as bad a grooming problem as us and despite citizens having the means to do something about it they choose not to for the same reason British people decide not to do something about it, Bystander syndrome. No one on either side of the Atlantic wants to risk their family's livelihood and safety for nothing to change.
