Two 8-month-old pit bulls that were loose in Nanaimo attacked several children, severely injuring at least one. Other people that came to aid the children were also injured.

The children were playing in a yard at the house of one of their friends. The dogs were from somewhere else in the neighborhood and had been cited for being at large previously.

One of the owners of the dogs came and got the dogs but did not stick around. The news interviewed the other owner, a Dangerhair that looked to be in her late 40s or early 50s. While she was devastated at what her dogs had done, she said to the reporter, "People are saying, look at this from the prospective of a parent, well, these dogs are my kids, too," and then she broke down crying.

It was later reported both dogs were euthanized, as there have been other incidents prior to this one, and due to the severity of the injuries the one particular child sustained.

To the dangerhair dog owner I would have to say, "If these dogs were your KIDS, you did a lousy job of raising them. Thank heavens you didn't spawn any of your own."

Genuinely insane. Most all dogs would just ignore it or be bemused, if not concerned because they can obviously recognize when you're struggling with something. The fact this dog attacked him because he was choking and having a hard time is super psycho crazy. Why these dogs aren't banned and hunted with prejudice is beyond me.

Seen a security cam vid on one of reddits freakout subs that showed some lady stumble and pass out in her backyard around her 3 dogs. The one that looked like a Lab type acted like he thought she was playing. The little mutt didn't give a shit and walked off while her shitbull decided it was as good a time as any to start mauling her.

I've lost count of the events where someone has an epileptic seizure and their pit bull just immediately starts mauling them. I've never heard of another dog that does that. Just worthless demon animals.

These dumbasses are the reason breeding has a bad reputation amongst the general public. A good breeder of any animal must consider conformation, temperament, genetics, and then match up the male and female after all that selection because even if both animals are good individually it still doesn't mean they will spit out good offspring. Some genetics, even good ones, just don't end up pairing well together. Then these animals must prove that it's a success by training and if applicable competing/doing the job they're bred for well. Most reputable breeders for dogs break even and do not even do it for profit. People think shallow lovey-dovey attitudes towards an animal is all that is necessary to make proper decisions. It's so retarded.

Even with non-pure breed dogs, feral dog packs would die out relatively quickly if they didn't receive a constant supply of new members from humans. Apparently most domestic dogs are kind of shitty parents, and even the ones who make a good try at taking care of their puppies are terrible at picking denning sites and so feral puppies die of exposure from either heat or cold at an unsustainable rate.

About the only places feral packs can survive long term without runaways sustaining their ranks are places like Chernobyl where they can use abundant abandoned human buildings as shelters.

Yeah see I used to take care of pit bulls for money before I had my daughter and I think people are beguiled to an extent by the "velcro dog" mode. You don't think this dog that seems preoccupied with cuddles from you and looks devastated if you're mad could rip your leg off just as easily.

My aunt showed me photos of the aftermath, it was nasty and gory as hell, his calf skin and muscles were opened up like a banana peel, you could even see the bone inside. He was flushed with antibiotics to prevent sepsis and stitched up the best doctors could do, it sounds stupid but after it healed, it looked like a pooner's rotdog graft.

They skip every other potential dog social response to owner-in-distress (including nosing your arm, actively soliciting pets and cuddles, trying to get your attention, barking at you, leaning on you) and go straight to a totally inappropriate aggression response. Pit bulls resource guard their keepers, essentially treating them as a vending machine of pets, walkies, interaction, treats, food, experiences, and other goodies. Keepers misinterpret the resource guarding as protection + affection. If they're not trained to heel pit bulls can start to get entitled vs. their owners.

Also, pitbull owners tend to take their dogs everywhere because the dogs get “separation anxiety” (read: pitch a fit) when left alone and are notorious for destroying their crates, shitting up the house, tearing apart the owner’s furniture, jumping through glass windows to escape to the street, chewing holes in the drywall, doors, baseboards and flooring, etc., if the owner tries to leave them at home. Imagine if BMJ were a dog, complete w the crack habit and tendency to destroy the house when mad. So the owners end up taking Pibbles to a bunch of inappropriate situations to avoid property damage.

Emotional support dogs are fucking bullshit and should be banned. There is no legislation around them other than forcing people to deal with them everywhere except for maybe where food is present. Most are not trained. And if your so anxious you cannot go out in public without your mutt then don't go out in public with it. Stay home, order deliveries, transport yourself and the mutt in your own car all the time. The state of things to let people make up bullshit rules for themselves because Mental Health is so astronomically retarded.

It has slacked off a bit lately but we used to have people come in to work constantly begging for "ESA letters" from the doctor to try and force landlords to waive the pet deposit fee, waive the $25 a month pet rent, or force the landlord to allow a dog breed that on the restricted list. It's such fucking bullshit. Most of the time it's "people of welfare" and government housing. I know that times are tough and unfortunately many Americans would have a hard time with a sudden $500 bill for anything, but if you can't scrape together a couple hundred dollars for pet rent in advance knowing that you'll have to pay it when you get an apartment, you probably shouldn't have that pet. Pet ownership is not a "human right."

Pets can cause a lot of damage (dogs especially) and that's why most landlords require a pet deposit. Pitmommies (and dogmommies in general) will proudly post to Facebook about Fido eating drywall, pissing everywhere, and tearing doors off hinges then get upset when their apartment requires $300.

I know that for some people their pet is all they have and their pet may be the reason they get up every day instead of ending it all, BUT if you're genuinely emotionally dependent on an animal that you can't be in public without it you are in need of serious help. You would've been institutionalized in the 1940s.

There are NO requirements for an Emotional Support Animal. NONE. You shop around for a mental health professional who will write you a letter in exchange for some cold, hard cash, and boom! You can now take your anxious, untrained, uncontrollable "lab mix" (95% pit) home to chew doors off their hinges and cover the flooring in piss and shit. Landlords hate this one neat trick!

And - even better! - most shop owners aren't aware that ESAs don't have the legal protections that actual working dogs (seeing-eye dogs, dogs that alert to seizures, etc) have, so they would rather just let you bring your shitbull in to menace the other customers than risk getting slapped for discrimination by telling you to GTFO.
